Fromm is going through a time of confusion and anxiety, but in return, the song gains depth. Phrases like "The city's nightlight is an imitation of stars" are jewel-like sentences drawn from that depth.
QED is a mathematical term that signifies the completion of a proof. It's interpreted as, "That's what I was trying to prove. That's how it turned out." Unlike mathematics, which has a definitive answer, most of the things we encounter in life are closer to unexpected variables. Most things simply flowed naturally, rather than being chosen. Looking back, they are all a series of moments that lead to the simple statement, "So that's how it turned out." Perhaps we prove the meaning of life through this journey, full of variables.
Even though each song has a different emotional arc, I wanted it to freely expand into as many different moods and directions as possible. These songs are fragments of my life, which, when they flow, simply become what they are.
/ From Author's Note
< Proof of a being who does not lose his dignity even in the midst of unpredictable pain and sorrow. >
Can we easily get through this time of sorrow with the comfort of a single cherry?
"Cherry for Sadness" is a song about the lightness that overcomes heaviness. Life is constantly exposed to the brutality of chance. Anxiety, confusion, and sadness sometimes strike unexpectedly. What can we do in those helpless moments? Fromm shakes off his depression and bites into a crunchy, sweet cherry. As the juice flows and the scent of the flesh warms and comforts the body, the mind, the owner of the body, understands and feels relieved. "It's okay, don't worry, it will pass, it's only a moment." And this sweet time you chose cannot be taken away by anyone. The cherry speaks, twinkling brightly like a red light bulb. This is how a small, insignificant human being confronts sadness. As the time of a single cherry grows, sadness will eventually recede. Spitting out the cherry's pit, Fromm gently brushes away the sadness as if it were nothing. This sense of embracing sadness and pain with cheerfulness permeates the entire album. Isn't it true that sadness isn't squishy, but rather "rolls around"? It's Fromman's special feeling.
Those who believe in the elasticity of lightness don't fear the gravity of anxiety. So, they willingly plunge into the depths of anxiety ('Let it fall'). Like a broken, sparkling shard, people shine with wounds. This is why "Stars don't fear the dark." Stars can only sing in the darkness. Fromm, too, sings "I'll sing you lullabies" amidst the darkness of wounds. It's "easy for me," yet tearful. In that song, the wounds toss and turn, finally falling asleep. And when they wake, a new day will arrive, as if by magic.
Twelve years have passed since Fromm released his first album. He quickly became a rising star as a singer-songwriter. Then, one day, he stepped outside the safety of his success. Seeking complete musical freedom, he founded his own independent label. Freedom always brings with it anxiety and uncertainty. This album seems to piece together the passage of time, surrendering to those turbulent emotions.
Fromm "dances in a dark room ('Proof of the Night')" to overcome anxiety. It's a moment of confirmation that I'm alive, a moment where freedom and anxiety are exchanged. "I still don't know what life is," but I know what I must do in this moment: to love my body and mind with all my might. "Quietly embracing you as you walk ahead" is the same. In that moment, when your body heat warms me, no shadow of life can find its way in. When my body heat also reaches you and we share a sense of security, love dwells in a perfect moment. That moment, free from any lack, attains eternity. It's the "eternity of the moment" that can overcome fleeting time. That's why Fromm sings, "The moment I've dug into you is eternity." Looking back, I see that moment that felt like eternity again. That's why I "had to love love more."
We can't tell where the winter of life is coming. But when it comes, it will inevitably come. The only thing that keeps us from the cold is a "thin jacket" ("It doesn't get cold"), but instead of cowering, we're startled and simply laugh. In a time of suffering, instead of self-pity, we find a cheerful laughter. Fromm's intuition for finding that laughter that would otherwise make winter feel awkward is extraordinary.
Fromm is going through a time of confusion and anxiety, but in return, his songs have gained depth. Phrases like "The city nightlight is an imitation of the stars" are jewel-like sentences dug up from that depth. Our desires are not spontaneous, but imitations of something. We believe them to be real. The city nightlight is a pile of these imitations of desire. We exist only within that pitiful light. Yet, even these imitation lights, when gathered together, are beautiful. This is how Fromm sings.
The album title, QED, stands for "Quod Erat Demonstrandum," signifying the completion of a mathematical proof. Through five songs, Fromm proves himself. It's a testament to a being that maintains dignity even amidst unpredictable pain and sorrow. Anxious yet free, winter yet smiling, sorrow yet a sweet bite of fruit. This is "the ideal, the content of myself I've been trying to prove."

(I'll sing you lullabies)"를 부른다.
