Bang Yongguk, former leader and producer of the boy group BAP, is back with his second album [2] following his first solo album [BANGYONGGUK] released in 2019. The new album [2] contains the second story of Bang Yong-guk, a musician who has lived, is living, and will live through unpredictable changes from the moment he was born. In the big keyword of life, his direct way of speaking about the things he loves and hates, the things that make him happy and the things that make him sad run through the six tracks of this album.

[2] is also a trace of Bang Yong-guk's efforts to escape the narrow world in various fields from art to social culture while taking a break from music. Among them, surrealism was a material that stimulated his sensitive nerves. However, instead of destroying the existing music form, new stories were added to Bang Yong-guk's unique emotion, which is described as "almost dark, serious, and depressing." It is mysterious, bizarre, and full of symbols with sexual meaning. The actual album was also divided into two versions according to the way in which the nature of surrealism, which always has the identity of anxiety, is expressed artistically.

초현실, 예민한 감각으로 가득한 어딘가에서 쓰는 편지, [2]

전 보이그룹 B.A.P의 리더이자 프로듀서였던 방용국이 2019년에 발매한 첫 번째 솔로 앨범 [BANGYONGGUK]에 이어 두 번째 앨범 [2]로 돌아왔다. 새 앨범 [2]는 태어난 순간부터 예측할 수 없는 변화를 겪으며 살아온, 살아가고 있는, 살아갈 방용국이란 음악가가 두 번째로 풀어놓는 이야기를 담고 있다. 삶이라는 커다란 키워드 안에서 사랑하는 것들과 증오하는 것들, 기쁘게 하는 것들과 슬프게 하는 것들에 관해 되도록 솔직하게 털어놓는 그의 직설적인 화법이 이 앨범의 6개 트랙을 관통한다.

[2]는 방용국이 음악을 쉬면서 예술부터 사회문화에 이르기까지 여러 분야에 걸쳐 좁은 세계를 벗어나려 애를 쓴 흔적이기도 하다. 그중에서도 초현실주의는 그의 예민한 신경을 자극한 소재였다. 하지만 기존에 만든 음악의 형태를 마구 부수는 대신, “거의 어둡고 진지하고 우울하다”는 수식어로 설명되는 방용국 특유의 정서에 새로운 이야기들을 첨가했다. 오묘하고 기이하며, 성적인 의미를 띤 상징이 가득하다. 그 기반에는 항상 불안이라는 정체성을 지니고 있는 초현실주의의 성질을 미술적으로 표현하는 방식에 따라 실물 앨범 또한 두 개의 버전으로 나눴다.

듣는 음악과 보는 음악 사이에 방용국은 지금 자신이 살고있는 세상의 면면이 그러하듯 어지러운 균열을 내려 한다. '2'라는 숫자가 주는 안정성도 마음에 들지만, 반대로 이 안정성을 망가뜨리고 '1'이었던 자신의 삶에 '1'만큼의 도전을 더해 '2'만큼의 혼란을 만들겠다는 의지. 인간의 인식 체계를 허무는 것이 초현실주의의 골자라면, 방용국은 자신이 맞이한 두 번째 전환의 순간을 기존에 자신이 살았던, 지금 살아가고 있는, 앞으로 살아가게 될 세계를 허무는 데에 쓰고 싶을지도.
