Jo Hyu-il (aka Black Skirt), who spent her youth in New York, was playing music in New York and released an album in Korea by chance. As someone said, it was a 'bounce out', but the wave unexpectedly widened.

청소년기를 뉴욕에서 보낸 조휴일(aka 검정치마)는 뉴욕에서 이런저런 음악을 하다가 우연한 기회에 한국에서 앨범을 발표하게 된다. 누군가의 표현처럼 '갑툭튀'했는데 그 파장은 의외로 점점 확대되어 갔다.

흡입력 있는 멜로디 만큼이나 서정적인 한글가사는 순식간에 모던소년/소녀들의 마음을 녹였다.

평단에서도 시끄러웠다. 2010년 한국 대중음악 시상식에서 무려 다섯 개 부문 후보에 오르는 기염을 토했는데, 첫 앨범을 발표한 아티스트로서는 거대한 첫 걸음으로 기록됐다. 이미 음반이 발매될 무렵 대중 음악상 선정 위원단들로부터 만장일치에 가까운 찬사를 통해 합격 점을 얻어낸 바 있었다. 2009년 가장 화려한 인디 팝 스타의 탄생을 알리는 순간이었다.

이번 리 이슈 버전은 새롭게 마스터링 작업을 거치면서 기존의 팬들에겐 전작과 비교해볼 수 있는 기회를, 아직 앨범을 감상하지 못한 새로운 팬들에겐 하이-파이한 꺼리들을 제공할 예정이다. 어떤 기준을 중점으로 새로 마스터링 됐는지는 뮤지션이 직접 밝히지 않는 한 듣는 이들이 판단할 몫이다. 그 ‘미묘한 차이’가 듣는 이들로 하여금 소소한 즐거움을 줄 것이다. 물론 새롭게 포함되는 세 곡의 보너스 트랙 또한 그냥 지나쳐서는 안된다.

신선함과 복고는 대비되는 단어이긴 하지만 이 음반을 설명하는데 있어서는 공존 가능하다. 당신이 전자와 후자 중 어떤 것에 더욱 매력을 느끼고 있는지는 모르겠지만 당신이 덜 좋아하는 다른 하나가 나머지 하나를 보완하게 되는 낯선 광경을 본 앨범을 감상하는 내내 목격하게 될 것이다. 아무튼 이왕이면 '검정치마'다.
