Based on the background of the band mate's birth, in January 2009, before the album was released, I happened to have the opportunity to perform in the lobby of the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts, and during the performance, I was invited to The Swell Season's Glen Hansard. It also contains the story of the luck of being picked up by and debuting as a guest on the stage of this performance. Mate's members Jung Joon-il (vocal, keyboards), Lim Heon-il (vocal, guitar), and Lee Hyun-jae (drums) appeared as the lead actors, and Mate directly participated in writing lyrics, composing, arranging, and playing the music used, pouring out his passion. . Through this, you will be able to enjoy Mate's wide musical spectrum once again.

The first track, 'Late Morning', is a lyrical song that expresses the boredom of young people in their twenties in their daily lives. 'PLAY', which has the same name as the movie, expresses them who value their love and passion for music with a modern and sophisticated sound. 'RUN' and 'YEAH' were used as the play logo and background music in the movie, and are songs with a dynamic sound that were released only online as digital singles, and are like gifts that can be found in albums. And 'IMPRO' is an impromptu song made while watching a video, and the dreamy atmosphere is excellently portrayed with a guitar performance using a bow, and 'It's because of you' makes you feel the excitement of meeting a new friend. They wanted to get closer, but felt a wall with each other, so they sang their own pity through REAL, and they also feel the beautiful friendship that comforts the pain of parting with the music of 'Lean on You' along with the piano and cello. The film follows the process of three young people forming a band, creating their own music, and the moments of love they meet in the process. Jun-il accidentally hears Hun-il's music at a cafe, plays his song to him, and proposes to form a band together. Here, drummer Hyun-jae joins, and those who formed a modern rock band capture the hesitant love and the anxious but earnest desire toward a hopeless dream in the music with emotional melodies. Instead of waiting for the agency to decide, the three members decide to busking at the performance of the world-renowned indie band 'The Swell Season', and this busking will change their destiny. 영화 플레이(PLAY)는 음악 하는 20대 청년들의 삶에서 음악이 만들어지는 동기와 그들의 고뇌, 꿈과 희망을 위해 질주하는 열정과 그들의 작지만 소중한 사랑을 담은 음악영화 이다.
밴드 메이트의 탄생 배경을 바탕으로 2009년 1월, 앨범도 발표 하기 전 세종문화회관 로비에서 우연치 않게 공연할 기회를 잡게 되었고, 공연 중에 스웰시즌(The Swell Season)의 글렌한사이드 (Glen Hansard)에 의해 픽업되어 본 공연 무대에서 게스트로써 데뷔하게 되는 행운의 이야기도 담고 있다. 메이트의 멤버 정준일(vocal,Keyboards) , 임헌일(vocal,guitar), 이현재(drums) 가 직접 주연으로 출연했으며, 사용된 음악 또 한 작사 및 작곡, 편곡, 연주 까지 메이트가 직접 참여하여 열정을 쏟아냈다. 이를 통해, 메이트의 넓은 음악적 스펙트럼을 다시 한번 만끽 하게 될 것이다.

- PLAY O.S.T
첫 번째 트랙 '늦은 아침'은 20대 청년들이 일상 생활에서의 망중한을 표현한 곡으로, acoustic guitar 와 voice가 잘 조화되어 아름다운 화성진행 과 멜로디가 돋보이는 서정적인 곡이다. 영화와 동명인 'PLAY'는 모던하고, 세련된 사운드로 그들의 음악에 대한 사랑과 열정을 소중하게 생각하는 그들을 표현하였다. 'RUN'과 'YEAH'는 플레이 로고와 영화 속 배경음악으로 사용 되었으며, 다이나믹한 사운드가 돋보이는 곡으로 digital single로 온라인 상에서만 발표된 곡으로 앨범으로 만나 볼 수 있는 선물 같은 곡이다. 그리고 'IMPRO'는 영상을 보며 만든 즉흥곡으로 활을 사용한 기타연주 등으로 몽환적 분위기가 뛰어나게 그려졌으며 '그대 때문 이죠' 는 새로운 친구와의 만남에 대한 설레임을 느끼게 한다. 가까워 지길 원했으나 서로에게 벽을 느껴 혼자만의 연민을 REAL을 통해 노래 하였고, 헤어짐의 아픔을 피아노와 첼로와 함께 '너에게 기대' 란 음악으로 위로하는 아름다운 우정도 느끼게 한다. 이별 후에 느끼는 또 다른 사랑의 감정을 노래한 정준일의 '난 너를 사랑해' 가 재해석 되었다. 영화에서 메이트 결성에 계기가 되는 '그리워'를 임헌일 혼자만의 실연과 유학생활을 포기한 후 부르는 정준일의 '이제 다시'가 영화 속 사운드 그대로 수록되어 있다. 플레이 O.S.T는 스무 살 시대의 청춘들이 겪는 일상의 감정들을 음악으로 담았으며, 그들의 진솔한 마음을 음악을 통해 함께 느낄 수 있는 그들의 소중한 일기장 같은 음악앨범 이다.

- PLAY 줄거리
영화는 세 명의 젊은이가 밴드를 만들기로 의기투합하고, 자신들만의 음악을 만들어 내는 과정과 , 그 과정에서 만나게 되는 사랑의 순간들을 따라간다. 준일은 우연히 카페에서 헌일의 음악을 듣게 되고, 그에게 자신의 노래를 들려주며 함께 밴드를 만들고자 제안한다. 여기에 드러머 현재가 합류하게 되고, 모던 락 밴드를 결성한 이들은 음악 속에 머뭇거리는 사랑, 불안하지만 빛이 바라지 않는 꿈을 향한 간절함을 감성적 멜로디로 담아낸다. 세 멤버는 기획사의 선택을 기다리는 대신 세계적인 인디밴드 '스윌시즌(The Swell Season)'의 공연에서 버스킹을 하기로 결심하고,이 버스킹은 그들의 운명을 바꾸어 놓게 된다.〈플레이(PLAY)〉는 사랑 앞에서도, 그리고 일 앞에서도, 늘 머뭇거리는 청춘들이지만, 오랜 꿈이자 희망인 음악을 하는 순간 누구보다 눈부시게 빛나는 세 사람의 감동적인 순간을 보여주며 계속 되어야 할 청춘의 꿈과 열정, 사랑을 이야기한다.
