'Maria' for you and for me
Hwasa, who released her solo debut song 'twit' in February 2019, dominated the domestic and international music charts, as well as imprinted the appearance of a solo artist in the public with her unrivaled style and trendy musicality. After about a year and four months, they released their first mini-album [Maria].
[Maria] is an album that contains the precious stories that Hwasa wants to tell to the public and to herself from the side of her heart. From stories for those who have been hurt by the world and others to sympathizing with empty sides and sincerely comforting stories, anyone can relate. The topic that can be solved with full of her affection.
The title song of the same name, 'Maria', also showed growth as a singer-songwriter by collaborating with PD Park Woo-sang, the general producer of this album. Sometimes someone's unreasonable hatred becomes a blade, scarring deep in the heart and destroying one's own soul. The title song 'Maria' is a difficult life where there is no reason for hatred and no name for the disease, but for my heartfelt self, I let go of my throat and cry coolly, get up again and breathe out, take a step forward, and deserve to be loved. It is a comforting song for you and me.

The music video for the title song 'Maria' was directed by director Beomjin of VM Project, who is receiving love calls from many artists for his unique color and directing. The music video for the b-side song 'LMM' was coordinated with director Hobin of HOBIN film. 지난 2019년 2월 솔로 데뷔곡 ‘멍청이 (twit)’를 발매하고 국내외 음원차트 석권은 물론, 독보적인 스타일과 트렌디한 음악성으로 대중에게 솔로 아티스트적 면모를 확실히 각인시킨 화사. 약 1년 4개월 만에 첫 번째 미니 앨범 [Maria]을 발매했다.
[Maria]는 화사가 대중에게 그리고 자신에게 들려주고 싶은 소중한 이야기를 마음 한편에서 꺼내어 담은 앨범으로 세상과 타인에게 상처받은 이들을 위한 이야기부터 텅 비어있는 곁을 함께 공감해주고 진심으로 위안하는 이야기 등 누구나 공감할 수 있는 주제를 그녀의 애정을 가득 담아 풀어냈다.
동명의 타이틀곡 ‘마리아 (Maria)’는 이번 앨범의 총괄 프로듀서 박우상 PD와 공동 작업하여 싱어송라이터로서의 성장 또한 보여줬다. 가끔 누군가의 이유 없는 미움이 칼날이 되어 마음 깊숙한 곳까지 상처를 내고 자신의 영혼까지 망가트리곤 한다. 타이틀곡 ‘마리아 (Maria)’는 미움에 이유가 없고 상처에 병명이 없는 녹록지 않은 삶이지만 애틋한 내 자신을 위해 목 놓아 시원하게 울어버리고 다시 일어나 숨을 내쉬자고, 한 발 한 발 내딛자고, 사랑받아 마땅한 너를 위해 그리고 그런 나를 위해 다독여주는 곡이다.
이번 앨범은 텅 빈 공간에서 오롯이 스스로에게 들려주는 이야기 ‘Intro : Nobody else’를 시작으로 가십거리의 주인공으로 만들어 버린 너에게 던지는 이야기를 담은 곡이자 지코의 프로듀싱으로 발매 전부터 기대가 뜨거웠던 ‘Kidding’, 나에게로 오는 길이 흔적도 없이 사라져 버린 너에게 닿지 않을 사랑을 되묻는 ‘WHY’, 나도 너와 다르지 않음을 장난스런 말에 담아 단순한 듯 진한 위로를 주는 ‘I’m bad too (Feat. DPR LIVE)’, 캄캄한 불안 속을 걷고 있지만 결국 단단해지리라. 위태로운 나를 따스하게 그리고 빈틈없이 안아주는 곡 ‘LMM’, 나만을 바라보는 네가 아닌 그런 너를 외면한 내가 ‘멍청이’ 였다는 이야기를 담은 ‘멍청이 (twit)’까지 다채로운 장르를 담아 명반의 탄생을 예고한다.
타이틀곡 ‘마리아 (Maria)’의 뮤직비디오는 유니크한 색감과 연출로 많은 아티스트들에게 러브콜을 받고 있는 VM Project의 범진 감독이 메가폰을 잡았다. 시선을 뗄 수 없는 강렬한 비주얼과 지금껏 볼 수 없었던 파격 퍼포먼스가 더해져 높은 완성도와 곡의 매력을 한 층 더 풍부하게 이끌어 냈다. 그뿐만 아니라 화사가 스토리 제작에 직접 참여하면서 이야기 흐름에 진정성을 더해 시네마틱한 감각을 극대화하였다.

지난 2019년 2월 솔로 데뷔곡 ‘멍청이 (twit)’를 발매하고 국내외 음원차트 석권은 물론, 독보적인 스타일과 트렌디한 음악성으로 대중에게 솔로 아티스트적 면모를 확실히 각인시킨 화사. 약 1년 4개월 만에 첫 번째 미니 앨범 [Maria]을 발매했다.
[Maria]는 화사가 대중에게 그리고 자신에게 들려주고 싶은 소중한 이야기를 마음 한편에서 꺼내어 담은 앨범으로 세상과 타인에게 상처받은 이들을 위한 이야기부터 텅 비어있는 곁을 함께 공감해주고 진심으로 위안하는 이야기 등 누구나 공감할 수 있는 주제를 그녀의 애정을 가득 담아 풀어냈다.
동명의 타이틀곡 ‘마리아 (Maria)’는 이번 앨범의 총괄 프로듀서 박우상 PD와 공동 작업하여 싱어송라이터로서의 성장 또한 보여줬다. 가끔 누군가의 이유 없는 미움이 칼날이 되어 마음 깊숙한 곳까지 상처를 내고 자신의 영혼까지 망가트리곤 한다. 타이틀곡 ‘마리아 (Maria)’는 미움에 이유가 없고 상처에 병명이 없는 녹록지 않은 삶이지만 애틋한 내 자신을 위해 목 놓아 시원하게 울어버리고 다시 일어나 숨을 내쉬자고, 한 발 한 발 내딛자고, 사랑받아 마땅한 너를 위해 그리고 그런 나를 위해 다독여주는 곡이다.
이번 앨범은 텅 빈 공간에서 오롯이 스스로에게 들려주는 이야기 ‘Intro : Nobody else’를 시작으로 가십거리의 주인공으로 만들어 버린 너에게 던지는 이야기를 담은 곡이자 지코의 프로듀싱으로 발매 전부터 기대가 뜨거웠던 ‘Kidding’, 나에게로 오는 길이 흔적도 없이 사라져 버린 너에게 닿지 않을 사랑을 되묻는 ‘WHY’, 나도 너와 다르지 않음을 장난스런 말에 담아 단순한 듯 진한 위로를 주는 ‘I’m bad too (Feat. DPR LIVE)’, 캄캄한 불안 속을 걷고 있지만 결국 단단해지리라. 위태로운 나를 따스하게 그리고 빈틈없이 안아주는 곡 ‘LMM’, 나만을 바라보는 네가 아닌 그런 너를 외면한 내가 ‘멍청이’ 였다는 이야기를 담은 ‘멍청이 (twit)’까지 다채로운 장르를 담아 명반의 탄생을 예고한다.
타이틀곡 ‘마리아 (Maria)’의 뮤직비디오는 유니크한 색감과 연출로 많은 아티스트들에게 러브콜을 받고 있는 VM Project의 범진 감독이 메가폰을 잡았다. 시선을 뗄 수 없는 강렬한 비주얼과 지금껏 볼 수 없었던 파격 퍼포먼스가 더해져 높은 완성도와 곡의 매력을 한 층 더 풍부하게 이끌어 냈다. 그뿐만 아니라 화사가 스토리 제작에 직접 참여하면서 이야기 흐름에 진정성을 더해 시네마틱한 감각을 극대화하였다.
수록곡 ‘LMM’의 뮤직비디오는 HOBIN film의 호빈 감독과 호흡을 맞췄다. 자연의 광활함이 살아 숨 쉬는 울릉도의 아름다운 풍경과 보는 이의 마음을 울컥하게 만드는 화사의 연기, 웅장한 스트리밍 속 덤덤히 내뱉은 나를 위한 노랫말이 만나 뜨거운 울림을 선사한다. 롱테이크의 구성으로 타이틀과는 또 다른 모습이 담긴 ‘LMM’ 뮤직비디오는 마치 한 편의 짧은 영화라 해도 손색없는 작품성을 기대해도 좋으며, 이는 추후에 공개될 예정이다.
화사의 첫 번째 미니앨범 [Maria]는 그녀가 오랜 기간 동안 고민하고 준비해온 만큼 노력과 열정이 고스란히 담겨 있다. 작사, 작곡뿐만 아니라 앨범 전반적 프로듀싱, 스타일링, 뮤직비디오 스토리 제작 등에 적극적으로 참여하면서 아티스트로서 더욱 성숙해지고 발전한 화사의 모습을 발견할 수 있다.

누구도 볼 수 없었던 미소, 웃는 법을 잊은 쓸쓸한 마리아. 아무도 없는 밤 한가운데 홀로 남아 스스로에게 들려주는 이 이야기는 공허하게 흩어지지 않고 오롯이 사랑과 용기가 되어 마리아를 세상 밖으로 일으키며 마치 한편의 운문시를 연상하게 한다.

세상은 언제나 무자비한 방식으로 돌진해 왔고 그 때문에 생긴 상처의 고통은 누군가를 향한 미움으로 뱉어냈다. 녹록지 않은 삶 속에서 생겨난 그 상처들은 우리를 괴롭히며 동시에 영혼까지 망가트리곤 하지만 그럼에도 불구하고 한 번 시원하게 울어버리고 다시 스스로를 위해 숨 쉴 수 있기를, 그리고 다시 꿈을 꾸길 바라는 이야기를 담았다.
Track 3. Kidding
영원할 것만 같던 행복은 끝났다. 연인에게서 또 다른 사랑의 존재를 느끼는 순간은 뻔해서 더 비극적이다. 나만을 사랑한다던 고백은 사라지고 설마 했던 느낌이 맞아떨어진 순간, 싸늘하게 내뱉는 한마디.

너에게 쉽기만 한 사랑이 나에게는 왜 이렇게 힘들고 어려울까. 나를 향한 너의 사랑은 차갑게 식어 비워져 있음을 알면서도 멈출 수 없는 스스로가 바보 같기만 하다. 돌이키기엔 이미 늦어버린 지금, 닿지 않을 물음을 던진다.

세상에는 수많은 위로의 방식이 존재한다. 그중 흔히 얘기하는 '힘내', '잘 될 거야'라는 말은 과연 얼마나 큰 위로가 될까. 형식적이고 뻔한 위로의 말보다는 나도 너와 다르지 않음을, 여기 이 진흙탕 속에 함께 있음을 전하는 것이 때로는 더 위안이 된다.
인생이 그저 꽃길일 수 없고, 꽃길이 아니면 어떠한가.

기나긴 어둠 속에 혼자 버려진 것처럼 느껴지는 때가 있다. 눈앞이 컴컴하게 느껴지고 어디론가 도망치고 싶은 순간, 스스로에게 말을 건넨다. 제자리를 맴도는 듯한 불안 속에서도 결국은 조금씩 단단해진다. 떨어지는 빗속에서도 꽃은 피어나듯.

트로피컬의 요소가 가미된 트랩 비트에 독특한 기타 리프와 오르간을 추가해 트렌디함을 살렸다. 화사의 매력적인 음색이 짙게 베인 멜로디 라인과 중독성 있는 후렴구가 인상적인 곡이다. 오직 나만을 바라보고, 나만을 위해주는 연인의 행복하지 못하는 모습을 보면서도 결국 보듬으며 함께하지 못하는 자신을 ‘멍청이’라며 표현한 가사가 신선하게 다가온다.
