'Vanilla' is composed and arranged by composer STEVEN LEE, who composed and arranged 'In Memories', the theme song for the international version of the Marvel movie Avengers, 'Secret Garden' and 'Slightly Excited' by Oh My Girl, as well as songs by Girls' Generation, AOA, and GFriend. Swedish singer-songwriter Caroline Gustavsson and British composer J. Littlewood collaborated to create this song, and it is a high-teen pop dance song that fully melts LIGHTSUM's energetic and positive power.

In particular, the lyrics "My eyes cast a spell in your heart to make it sweeter" and "It all comes true, it will come true" convey a sense of mystery as if inviting the listener into a fantasy by placing a spell on them. The music video, which depicts the moment of leap for the eight members living in Vanilla Village towards a dream-like stage, with fairy tale elements and popping directing, is also a point to watch. LIGHTSUM은 Mnet 프로듀스 48을 통하여 시청자들에게 많은 사랑을 받았던 초원, 나영, 유정과 KBS2 더 유닛과 댄싱하이에서 놀라울 만큼 뛰어난 퍼포먼스와 무대매너로 심사위원들로부터 극찬을 받은 주현을 비롯하여, 매력적인 비주얼로 많은 관심을 모은 상아, 발레와 피겨 실력을 겸비한 남다른 이력의 히나와 휘연 그리고 현 케이팝 아이돌 중 최연소 데뷔 멤버로 화제가 된 06년생 막내 지안까지 총 여덟 명으로 구성된 신예 걸그룹이다. 데뷔 전 처음 공개한 깨끗하고 맑은 분위기의 프로필 사진으로 이목을 집중 받고, 멤버들을 소개하는 캐릭터 필름을 통하여 퍼포먼스와 가창력을 인정받았을 뿐만 아니라 자유롭고 개성 넘치는 Z세대의 신선함을 보여주며 데뷔에 대한 기대감을 더욱 증폭시켰다.

데뷔 싱글 [Vanilla]는 ‘LIGHTSUM이 만드는 특별하고 짜릿한 바닐라 맛이 평범한 하루에 마법 같은 선물이 된다.’는 의미를 담았다. 매일 반복되는 일상을 색다른 판타지로 물들이며 무엇이든 될 수 있다는 자신감과 설렘을 선사하고자 한다. 새로운 것을 처음 시작할 때 느끼는 긴장 속의 짜릿함을 마치 사랑에 빠진 순간의 달콤함으로 표현해냈다.

‘Vanilla’는 마블 영화 어벤져스의 인터내셔널판 주제곡 ‘In Memories’, 오마이걸의 ‘비밀정원’, ‘살짝 설렜어’등을 작곡 및 편곡한 작곡가 STEVEN LEE와 소녀시대, AOA, 여자친구 등의 곡을 제작한 스웨덴 싱어송라이터 Caroline Gustavsson, 영국 작곡가 J. Littlewood가 의기투합하여 만든 곡으로 LIGHTSUM의 에너제틱하고 긍정적인 파워를 한껏 녹여낸 하이틴 Pop Dance 곡이다.
