The EP [LOW KIK] is a work that elegantly unfolds the band KIK's current state, beyond how they establish their own coordinates. As a constantly growing being cannot always handle emotions in the same way, this album was completed in a "current KIK-like" way.

KIK's first EP, [KIK], was a work that carefully layered raw impulses over polished textures. Some tracks revealed a rough texture, while overall, the album felt like an attempt to explore identity amidst restrained power. The album was a starting point, revealing the foundation upon which "KIK as a band" began.

If their first EP [KIK] was a starting point for exploring the "foundation of a band," carefully placing raw impulses on a refined texture, [LOW KIK] charts a much bolder and more flexible trajectory. Their emotional expression has become less sharp, and the void left behind is filled with a much more honest attitude. While it's not simply bright or lighthearted, this work is imbued with a more open attitude and a sharper awareness than before.

The first track, "3333," reaffirms the band's wild identity from the outset with hard riffs and a powerful rhythm. This intense opening further highlights the track that follows, "Sun."

"Sun" builds emotions one by one over a mid-tempo, delicately unfolding the emotions of moving forward while embracing loss and longing, rather than simply offering comfort. It's also the track that most clearly demonstrates KIK's current perspective on the world.

"Piece of Peace" is a track that briefly loosens up the mood of this EP. A collaboration with Thai band Dept, it gently weaves together the textures of dream pop and the warmth of pop rock. The two bands, each with distinct sensibilities, center around the message of "a little peace we offer each other," offering a moment of respite from the pace of reality, a moment of respite, and a tender comfort that's hard to put into words.

"DIAMOND" is more of a declaration. It powerfully drives home the will to fortify oneself through repeated phrases. It stands on the belief that pain makes one stronger, and being broken makes one stronger.

"Bella" is a track that reveals raw emotions of confusion and conflict. It depicts the process of suppressed inner turmoil finally bursting forth over a repetitive chorus and sharp guitar loop. The emotions, unreachable, the cracks and desires that arise within, overflow raw. While the song ultimately resolves itself with the words, "I'm okay," a wavering, unspoken voice lingers.

"Close" is the most briskly paced song ever. From the intro, it charges straight ahead with refreshingly scratchy guitar. Even under a crumbling sky, the song, which cries out, "I won't crack," is akin to a heart that no longer hesitates. Jung Min-hyuk's guitar solo, which bursts out midway through, adds a sharp drive to the flow, pushing the entire song toward even clearer conviction. Having overcome anxiety and resignation, the song reveals an attitude that it's okay not to believe and to waver.

[LOW KIK] is a work closer to a state than a direction.

The midpoint of a run that leaves the starting line.
Still imperfect, but definitely on track.

What is certain is that KIK is still forging its own path with its own convictions.

EP [LOW KIK]은 밴드 KIK이 자신들의 좌표를 설정하는 방식을 넘어, 지금 이들이 어떤 상태에 머물고 있는지를 유려하게 펼쳐 보이는 작품이다. 성장을 거듭하는 존재가 감정을 다루는 방식이 매번 같을 수는 없기에, 이번에도 '지금의 KIK다운' 방식으로 완성됐다.

KIK의 첫 EP [KIK]는 다듬어진 질감 위에 날 것의 충동을 조심스럽게 얹은 작품이었다. 몇몇 트랙에서는 거친 결이 드러났고, 전반적으로는 절제된 힘 속에서 정체성을 탐색하는 시도가 느껴졌다. 그 앨범은 '밴드로서의 KIK'이 어떤 기반 위에서 시작했는지를 보여주는 출발점이었다.

첫 번째 EP [KIK]이 정돈된 질감 위에 날 것의 충동을 조심스럽게 배치하며 '밴드로서의 기틀'을 탐색한 출발점이었다면, 이번 [LOW KIK]은 그보다 훨씬 과감하고 유연한 궤적을 그린다. 감정을 꺼내는 방식은 덜 날카로워졌고, 그 빈자리는 훨씬 솔직한 태도가 채운다. 단순히 밝거나 가볍다고 말할 수는 없지만, 이 작업의 전반에는 이전보다 개방적인 태도와 조금 더 선명해진 이들의 의식이 배어 있다.

첫번째 트랙 '3333'에서는 시작부터 하드한 리프와 강한 리듬을 앞세워 밴드의 야성적인 정체성을 재확인시킨다. 강도 높은 오프닝은 뒤이어 등장하는 'Sun'을 더욱 선명하게 부각시킨다.

'Sun'은 미들 템포 위에 감정을 하나씩 쌓아올리며, 단순한 위로가 아닌, 상실과 그리움을 품은 채 앞으로 나아가는 감정을 섬세하게 펼쳐 보인다. KIK이 지금 어떤 시선으로 세상을 바라보고 있는지를 가장 뚜렷하게 보여주는 트랙이기도 하다.

'piece of peace'는 이번 EP의 분위기를 잠시 유연하게 풀어주는 트랙이다. 태국 밴드 Dept와의 협업으로, 드림팝의 질감과 팝록의 팝록의 따뜻한 결을 부드럽게 엮는다. 서로 다른 감성을 지닌 두 밴드는 “서로에게 건네는 작은 평화”라는 메시지를 중심에 두고, 현실의 속도에 잠시 맞서 숨을 고르는 여유, 그리고 말로 하기 어려운 다정한 위로를 건넨다.

'DIAMOND'는 선언에 가깝다. 스스로를 단단하게 만들고자 하는 의지가 반복되는 구절과 함께 힘 있게 내리꽂힌다. 아프기 때문에 강해지고, 부서졌기에 단단해진다는 믿음 위에 서 있다.

'bella'는 혼란과 충돌의 감정이 날 것 그대로 드러나는 트랙이다. 반복되는 후렴과 날 선 기타 루프 위로 억눌린 내면이 마침내 터져 나오는 과정을 담고 있다. 끝내 닿지 못하는 감정, 그 안에서 생긴 균열과 욕망이 날것 그대로 흘러넘친다. 끝내 “I'm okay”라는 말로 수습되지만, 그 목소리엔 차마 말해지지 못한 흔들림이 남아 있다.

'Close'는 어느 때보다 가장 경쾌하게 질주한다. 인트로부터 청량하게 긁히는 기타와 함께 곧장 달려 나간다. 무너진 하늘 아래서도 “I won't crack”을 외치는 이 곡은, 더 이상 망설이지 않는 마음의 형태에 가깝다. 중반부를 가르며 터져 나오는 정민혁의 기타 솔로는 그 흐름에 날카로운 추진력을 더하고, 곡 전체를 한층 더 분명한 확신 쪽으로 밀어붙인다. 불안과 단념을 지나온 끝에서, 믿지 않아도 괜찮고 흔들려도 상관없다는 태도를 꺼내 보인다.

[LOW KIK]은 방향보다는 상태에 가까운 작업이다.

확실한 건, KIK은 여전히 스스로의 확신으로 길을 만들고 있다는 것이다.
