Remember, good things never go away.

It's been quite a while since I've released my new album.

The title track is "Fade Away." As you may know, when I first heard the music, I thought, "Ah, this is the song I want to sing, I want to write." While contemplating the lyrics, I pictured an old film rolling and a black-and-white movie being watched on that film. Someone who watches the final screen of a movie slowly fading away and thinks, "Ah, so our love will fade away like this too..." Someone who wants it to stay, wants it to not disappear, but knows that it can't happen in the end. But there's also a beauty there, a scene right before it fades out, a color palette right before it ends, a beauty that's more vivid because you know it's fading away.

The title of this album is [Unloved Echo]. It signifies the afterimage of a lost love, an echo, a lingering feeling that lingers in the heart even after the love has ended. You'll probably see different forms of love in the six songs on the album, but I'm not sure how each of those loves will leave a mark on the listener's heart. I think it's always like that. Just as not everyone likes the same song (the most), even when listening to the same song, the feeling it leaves on you is different. I'm curious. How will the songs I'm sending you this time leave a mark on your heart?

In fact, I wrote this title song about disappearing, but ironically, the biggest force that drives me to create this album is the feeling you give me, the feeling that will never disappear. Always worrying about my sleep, my meals, and worrying that I might feel burdened by the stage and entangle myself. And you tell me it's okay. It's absolutely okay. That happens sometimes. So, just shake it off and get up. Do you know? You give me strength far beyond what you realize, thousands and tens of thousands of times greater. That's why I find the strength to sing, write lyrics, exercise, and carry on with my daily life. I don't think this feeling will disappear. No, it won't. Come to think of it, I think that's what happened in every movie: good things never disappear.
As I linger on this topic, it's a rather cold winter. I hope these six carefully selected songs will make your winter a little warmer. I say this every time, but it truly is. I hope my songs make your world just a little bit kinder, more gentle, and more kind. That's all I need. That's why I sing, and I believe it's my way of giving back to this strange and mysterious connection between us, and to the strength you give me. Thank you.

꽤 오랜만에 저의 새로운 앨범을 발매하게 되었습니다.

타이틀곡은 '옅어져 가' 입니다. 아시겠지만요. 처음에 음악을 들었을 때 아 이 곡은 내가 부르고 싶다, 내가 쓰고 싶다고 생각을 했었습니다. 타이틀곡 가사를 고민하면서 오래된 필름이 돌아가고 그 필름으로 보게 되는 흑백영화를 떠올렸습니다. 천천히 희미해지는 영화의 마지막 화면을 보면서 '아, 우리의 사랑도 이렇게 사라지겠구나…' 라고 생각하는 사람. 머무르길 원하고, 사라지지 않길 원하지만 결국은 그럴 수 없다는 걸 아는 사람. 하지만 또 거기엔 페이드 아웃 직전의 장면, 끝나기 직전의 색감, 사라지는 걸 알기 때문에 더 기억에 선명한 아름다움이 있겠죠.

이번 앨범의 제목은 [Unloved Echo] 입니다. 사라진 사랑의 잔상, 메아리, 사랑이 끝나고 난 뒤에도 마음 속에 남아 계속 울리는 여운 같은 것을 의미합니다. 앨범에 수록된 총 여섯 곡에서 아마 각기 다른 사랑의 형태를 보실 수 있을 텐데요, 그 사랑들이 듣는 이의 마음에 또 각각 어떻게 남을지는 잘 모르겠습니다. 항상 그런 거 같아요. 모든 사람이 다 똑같은 곡을 (제일) 좋아하지는 않는 것처럼, 같은 곡을 들어도 또 마음에 남는 느낌은 다 다르더라고요. 궁금해요. 이번에 보내는 내 노래들은 어떤 모습으로 당신의 마음에 남을까요?

사실 이번 타이틀에서는 사라지는 것에 대한 노래를 썼는데, 또 곰곰이 생각해보면 참 아이러니하게도 또 내가 이런 앨범을 만들게 하는 가장 큰 힘은 절대 사라지지 않을, 당신이 내게 보내는 마음 때문입니다. 항상 내 잠을 걱정하고, 내 끼니를 걱정하고, 내가 무대에 대해서 부담을 느끼고 스스로를 옭아매진 않을까 걱정하는 그런 마음. 그리고 내게 괜찮다고 말합니다. 무조건 괜찮다고. 그럴 때도 있다고. 그러니까 툭툭 털고 일어나라고. 당신은 알까요? 자신이 생각하는 것보다 훨씬 더 많이, 수천 수만 배의 힘을 내게 주고 있다는 걸. 그래서 나는 또 다시 노래하고 가사를 쓰고 운동을 하고 내 일상을 영위하는 힘을 얻게 된다는 걸. 이런 마음은 사라지지 않을 거 같습니다. 아니, 사라지지 않습니다. 그러고 보니 어느 영화에서도 그랬던 거 같은데. 좋은 건 결코 사라지지 않는다고.
이런 이야기를 주저리주저리 얘기하는 지금은 꽤 많이 날이 추운 겨울입니다. 제가 엄선한 이 여섯 곡의 노래들이 당신의 겨울을 조금 더 따뜻하게 해 주면 좋겠습니다. 매번 말하는 거지만, 정말로 그렇습니다. 제 노래들이 당신의 세상을 아주 조금이라도 더 상냥하고 친절하고 온화하게 지켜 주길. 그거면 됩니다. 그게 내가 노래하는 이유고, 그게 나와 당신의 이 이상하고도 묘한 인연에 대한, 아니 당신이 나에게 주는 힘에 대해 제가 할 수 있는 보답이라고 생각합니다. 감사합니다.
