Love Songs of a Loveless World: My Love Is Bumpy and Ugly

Love is a complicated emotion. It is complicated, strange, and strange. It becomes cold as soon as it becomes warm, and the frozen heart boils in an instant. Even in beautiful and peaceful moments, jumbled and confused emotions quietly gather in the shadows. The closer we get to true love, the less we can hide our ugly hearts. Anxiety, impatience, jealousy, suspicion, satisfaction, and dissatisfaction intersect and sparks explode. The true nature of love is more chaotic than we can imagine.

I wanted to include a variety of love songs in this album. Not all of these 10 songs were created as 'love songs', but I decided to call them love songs from the perspective of the listener. At least to me, all of these songs had different faces of love. Some faces are thoughtful and some are miserable. Some faces are lonely and some are full of sadness. There are also faces where joy and pain intersect. Whether we love now or have loved at some point, we form a part of the world. Therefore, the end of love is like the end of the world.

Oh Young and Minguinho's "Judgment" is a song about a final moment. Amidst the darkness of regret and regret, a beautiful melody rises like a ray of light. Here, I think of guilt. Guilt is the feeling that makes us different beings. Jeon A-in's "Cleft" delves deeper into the sense of despair. It calmly describes the despair that comes when you fall into a deep chasm, your fingertips crack, and water rises to the tip of your nose. Jeong Sae-byeok's "Let's Eat" has a peaceful and gentle atmosphere dominated by "death." Next year, we have to go eat spring vegetables, go to the beach, and roast chestnuts. There is much we have to do "before you die."

Saga's "Night of Noise" is reflective, singing about the moment when lies taint love. We know that lies are the shortcut to ruining something, but we avoid the moment with small lies. Then why do we continue relationships? Bin-yi's "Scarf" is a song about the moment when we deceive ourselves. It brings back memories of when we pretended not to know that something was wrong. Why did we do that? What were we afraid of? Why did we pay the price for maintaining relationships that pretended to be normal?

The song “Never Dreamed” by Jangmulgyeol, which sings of fleeting joy, tenaciously captures insignificant moments. That feeling can torment us for a long time or cheer us on. That’s why it’s important to “catch the moment that has stopped.” Son Seo-jeong’s “A Snake Bite Its Tail” is dominated by the pain and paradox of relationships. If the beginning and the end are the same, despair is another name for hope, and we can create a new path in front of a blocked wall. Muiyad’s “Salvation” deals with the two sides of love with the theme of the contradiction of “free bondage.” We always waver on the border between familiarity and novelty, but accepting it and rejecting it are completely different matters.

Therefore, Ahn Hee-soo's "In this world where we must understand the incomprehensible" focuses on the gap between the world inside me and the outside world. If that gap can be called daily life, understanding is what fills the emptiness of each day, and love can be built only on understanding. The warmth of this love will make us live and become the light that guides us when we are lost. Tuesday Beach Club's "Endless Shine" tells us how regret and longing are reconstructed into hope and determination.

As I grew older and spent time here and there, I came to know that the cross-section of love is not smooth. Love is bumpy. There is no such thing as smooth love. My love is ugly. So, oh my, it is pretty. It is beautiful. It is splendid. It is impossible to understand this contradiction with the mind. Perhaps love is not an emotion that can be understood, but rather it is closer to willingly accepting a certain state of love. Embracing the bumpy aspects of love and accepting the absurd and ridiculous world are not different.

These ten songs are like a quiet greeting to someone who is going through a chaotic time, or someone who is having a peaceful and comfortable day. I listened to the faint message, listening to it again and again. During that time, I thought that I couldn’t do it alone. I can never love alone. I can never live alone. We can only understand, break through, and accept this stupid world through relationships. That’s why I want to listen to the love songs of the loveless world with you, right here, right now.

※ Poor playback
1) If you use a turntable without a tonearm or weight adjustment function (mainly all-in-one models), you may experience a skipping phenomenon when playing tracks with large dynamic sound deviations. This is mostly caused by the light tonearm weight.
We do not accept returns or exchanges for playback defects caused by device issues, so we recommend playing the product on a device with adjustable tone arm.
2) Discs may not play smoothly due to static electricity and dust. This can usually be resolved by removing it with a special product.
3) If dust accumulates on the needle, playback may not be smooth.

사랑 없는 세계의 사랑 노래: 내 사랑은 울퉁불퉁하고 못생겼어

사랑은 복잡한 감정이다. 복잡한데 이상하고 괴상하다. 따뜻해지자마자 차가워지고, 얼어붙은 마음은 순식간에 끓어오른다. 아름답고 평화로운 순간에도 뒤죽박죽 어질러진 감정이 그림자 속에 조용히 고인다. 우리는 진실한 사랑에 가까워질수록 자신의 못난 마음을 감추지 못한다. 불안, 초조, 질투, 의심, 만족, 불만이 교차하며 스파크가 터진다. 사랑의 본래 모습은 상상 이상으로 엉망진창이다.

이 앨범에 다양한 러브송을 담고 싶었다. 이 10곡이 모두 '러브송'으로 만들어진 것은 아니지만, 오로지 듣는 입장에서 이 노래들을 사랑 노래라고 부르기로 했다. 적어도 내게는, 이 모든 노래가 사랑의 다른 얼굴을 하고 있었기 때문이다. 어떤 얼굴은 사려 깊고 어떤 얼굴은 처참하다. 어떤 얼굴은 고독하고 어떤 얼굴은 슬픔으로 가득하다. 기쁨과 고통이 교차하는 얼굴도 있다. 지금 사랑하든 언젠가 사랑을 했든, 우리는 한 세계의 일부를 구성한다. 따라서 사랑의 종말은 한 세계의 종말과 같다.

오영과 밍기뉴의 〈심판〉은 어떤 최후의 순간에 대한 노래다. 후회와 미련이 얽힌 어둠 속에서 아름다운 선율이 한 줄기 빛처럼 떠오른다. 나는 여기서 죄의식을 떠올린다. 죄의식이야말로 우리를 다른 존재로 만드는 감각이다. 전아인의 〈틈〉은 절망의 감각을 더 깊게 파고든다. 깊은 틈에 빠진 채 손끝이 갈라지고 물이 코끝까지 차오르는 상황에서 밀려드는 절망감을 담담하게 묘사한다. 정새벽의 〈먹어버리자〉는 평화롭고 부드러운 분위기를 '죽음'이 지배한다. 내년에 우리는 봄나물도 먹으러 가야 하고, 바다에도 가야 하고, 밤도 구워 먹어야 한다. '네가 죽어버리기 전'에 우리는 해야 할 일이 많다.

거짓이 사랑을 더럽히는 순간을 노래하는 사가의 〈소음의 밤〉은 성찰적이다. 거짓이야말로 무언가를 망치는 지름길임을 알지만, 우리는 자잘한 거짓말로 순간을 모면한다. 그렇다면 대체 우리는 왜 관계를 지속하는 걸까? 빈이의 〈스카프〉는 자신이 자신을 속이는 순간에 대한 노래다. 뭔가 잘못되고 있는 것을 끝내 모른 체했던 기억을 불러낸다. 왜 그랬을까. 무엇이 두려웠을까. 우리는 왜 그렇게 평범한 척 관계를 유지하다가 대가를 치렀을까.

찰나의 기쁨을 노래하는 잔물결의 〈꿈은 없던 일〉은 별거 아닌 순간들을 집요하게 잡아챈다. 그 감각은 오랫동안 우리를 괴롭히기도, 응원하기도 한다. '지금 멈춰 선 찰나를 잡'는 일은 그래서 중요하다. 손서정의 〈꼬리를 문 뱀〉은 관계의 고통과 역설이 지배한다. 시작과 끝이 같다면 절망은 희망의 다른 이름이고, 우리는 막힌 벽 앞에서 새로운 길을 낼 수 있을 것이다. 무이야드의 〈구원〉은 '자유로운 속박'이란 모순을 테마로 사랑의 양면을 다룬다. 우리는 늘 익숙함과 새로움의 경계에서 갈팡질팡하지만, 그걸 받아들이는 것과 거부하는 건 완전히 다른 문제다.

그러므로 안희수의 〈이해할 수 없는 것들을 이해해야 하는 이 세상에서〉는 내 안의 세계와 바깥 세계의 틈에 집중한다. 그 간격을 일상이라고 부를 수 있다면, 그 하루하루의 공허를 메우는 것이 바로 이해고, 이해 위에서야 사랑을 쌓을 수 있다. 이러한 사랑의 온기가 우리를 살게 하고, 길 잃은 우리를 이끄는 빛이 될 것이다. 튜즈데이 비치 클럽의 〈Endless Shine〉은 후회와 그리움이 어떻게 희망과 각오로 재구성되는지 들려준다.

이런저런 시간을 보내며 나이를 먹는 동안 사랑의 단면이 매끈하지 않다는 것쯤은 알게 되었다. 사랑은 울퉁불퉁하다. 매끈한 사랑 같은 건 없다. 내 사랑은 못생겼다. 그래서 맙소사, 예쁘다. 아름답다. 찬란하다. 이 모순을 머리로 이해하는 건 불가능하다. 어쩌면 사랑은 이해할 수 있는 감정이 아니라 사랑의 어떤 상태를 기꺼이 받아들이는 쪽에 가까울 것이다. 울퉁불퉁한 사랑의 면면을 끌어안는 것과 황당하고 어이없는 세계를 받아들이는 일은 다르지 않다.

이 열 곡은 엉망진창의 시간을 보내는 누군가, 혹은 평화롭고 안락한 하루를 보낸 누군가에게 조용히 전하는 안부 같다. 들릴 듯 말 듯한 그 메시지가 좋아서 듣고 듣고 또 들었다. 그러는 동안 아무래도 혼자서는 안되겠다는 생각을 했다. 혼자서는 결코 사랑할 수 없다. 혼자서는 결코 살아갈 수 없다. 우리는 오직 관계를 통해서만 이 멍청한 세계를 이해하고, 돌파하고, 받아들일 수 있다. 이게 바로 지금 여기서, 사랑 없는 세계의 사랑 노래를 당신과 함께 듣고 싶은 이유일 것이다.
