I just want to tell you a little story.

I am now on the way to a new summer after a pleasant end to our endlessly warm spring. It's a season that I'll soon miss the cool dawn air and cool breeze that brushed my cheeks.

To prepare for this album, I went a little far for the first time in a while.

Even though it wasn't a trip, going somewhere far away was quite a thrill for me. Time to prepare, unexpected encounters that make you feel good, difficult situations you never expected, lucky things that you didn't expect but were given like gifts. And as I go through that long journey, maybe I'll spend the time of patience that I have to endure, even though it's boring, and I might get the strength to spend the journey in a better mood by meeting a kind person unexpectedly. Each and every one of these things is like a piece of tile that will eventually be added to my journey, and I thought that my journey would eventually be completed beautifully as I went through all of those things.

While thinking about that, I naturally came to think about 'my song' again. And maybe making a song is like going on a trip, I thought.

You can read more about my story on the album, but writing songs, adding lyrics, arranging, and finally meeting people who listen to my songs—all of these things I consider to be the process of making a song. While making a song, I face the long time and memories I have, take out my sound that I have hidden in it, retouch it, and write down the words that come to mind in the process. My heart and feelings that I recorded and made, you guys choosing and playing my songs, and in my songs that you listen to like that, you sometimes feel the feelings I felt when I made songs, such as comfort and excitement, this series of short stories I thought they would complete the process of my song journey beautifully. And while thinking and preparing all these things, I was very happy.

If you think about it that way, in fact, I don't think I've finished my trip yet. Maybe it won't end. If I continue to choose words like this, pick up my voice and make a sound, and you guys will listen to my song like that. I don't even know exactly where the destination of my trip is. I'm just happy enough at this time preparing for the trip. It's because you already know that you don't have to reach your destination to be happy.

So I'm going to light up the lights again on this birthday and make a wish.

May you always be with me on this journey without a destination.

그냥 두런두런 이야기를 하나 할까 합니다.

저는 지금 한없이 따뜻했던 우리의 봄을 기분 좋게 마무리하고 새로운 여름으로 가는 길목에 있습니다. 볼을 스치던 차가운 새벽공기와 시원한 바람이 이제 곧 그리워질 것 같은 계절입니다.

이번 앨범을 준비하기 위해 저는 오랜만에 좀 멀리 다녀왔습니다.

비록 여행은 아니었지만 어디론가 멀리 떠난다는 것은 제게 꽤 큰 설렘이었습니다. 준비하는 시간, 기분 좋은 뜻밖의 만남, 생각지도 못했던 어려운 상황, 기대하진 않았지만 선물처럼 주어진 운좋은 일들. 그리고 그 기나긴 여정을 지나면서 나는 어쩌면 지리하지만 견뎌야 하는 인고의 시간을 보낼 지도 모르고 뜻밖에 친절한 사람을 만나 더 좋은 기분으로 그 여정을 보낼 수 있는 힘을 얻을 지도 모릅니다. 이런 하나하나의 일들이 모두 결국에는 나의 여정에 덧붙여지는 한 조각의 타일조각 같은 것이고, 그렇게 그 모든 일을 지내면서 내 여행은 결국 예쁘게 완성되는 것이라는 생각을 했습니다.

그런 생각을 하면서 나는 또 자연스럽게 '나의 노래'에 대해 생각하게 되었습니다. 그리고 어쩌면 노래를 만드는 것은 여행을 하는 것과 같다 라는 생각을 했습니다.

앨범에 실린 제 이야기에서 좀 더 자세히 읽으실 수 있겠지만 곡을 쓰고 가사를 붙이고 편곡을 하고 그리고 마지막으로 내 노래를 들어주는 사람들을 만나는 것, 이런 모든 것들이 나는 내가 노래를 만드는 과정이라고 생각합니다. 노래를 만들면서 나는 내가 갖고 있던 오랜 시간이나 기억들과도 마주하고 그 안에 숨겨두었던 나의 소리를 꺼내고, 그걸 다시 매만지고, 그 과정에서 떠오르는 단어들을 적어 둡니다. 그렇게 기록하고 만든 나의 마음과 느낌들, 그대들이 나의 노래를 고르고 플레이 해주는 것, 그리고 그렇게 듣는 나의 노래에서 그대들은 때때로 위로나 설렘 같은 내가 노래를 만들 때 느꼈던 나의 감정들을 함께 느끼는 것, 이런 일련의 단편들이 내 노래여행의 과정을 예쁘게 완성시켜주는 거라고 생각했습니다. 그리고 이런 모든 것들을 생각하고 준비하면서 나는 참 행복했습니다.

그렇게 생각하면 사실 나는 아직 내 여행을 끝내지 못한 것 같습니다. 아마 끝나지 않을 지도 모릅니다. 나는 이렇게 계속 단어들을 고르고 목소리를 주워 담고 소리를 내고 그대들은 그런 나의 노래를 들어준다면요. 나는 나의 여행의 목적지가 어디인지도 정확하게 알지 못합니다. 나는 그냥, 여행을 준비하는 이 시간에서 충분히 행복합니다. 목적지에 닿아야 꼭 행복해지는 게 아니라는 걸 이미 알고 있기 때문입니다.

그래서 나는 이번 생일에도 또 불을 밝히고 소원을 빌어보려고 합니다.

이 목적지 없는 나의 여행에 그대들이 항상 함께 해주길.
기약 없는 우리의 여정이 느리고 오래 지속되길.
