Last year in 2016, San E, who received great love from the public by all-killing the charts with the singles 'Dalgona' and 'BAD YEAR', is releasing a new type of EP that is completely different from his musical moves he has shown so far. It's been 1 year and 9 months since the 1st album 'Shepherd Boy'.

San E's EP 'Season of Suffering' means 'a period of hardship', and the track list is composed of beginning - development - crisis - climax - ending, giving the feeling of a book written by an author, dividing the period. This album, which utilizes the format of the writing process, talks about the deep introspection of the honest mountain as a whole, and through this, it was completed as an album that contains more worries and considerations about itself than ever before beyond simple music itself. Also, this time, as well as producing all songs, he actively participates in the overall album production process, such as jacket design and music video concepting, and goes beyond a simple rapper, once again imprinting his image as an artist.

2016년 지난 한 해, 싱글 '달고나'와 '나쁜X (BAD YEAR)'로 차트를 올킬시키며 대중들에게 큰 사랑을 받았던 산이가 지금까지 보여온 그의 음악적 행보와는 전혀 다른 새로운 형태의 EP를 들고 정규 1집 '양치기 소년' 이후 1년 9개월 만에 돌아왔다.

산이의 이번 EP 'Season of Suffering'은 '고난의 시기'라는 의미로 발단 - 전개 - 위기 - 절정 - 결말로 트랙리스트를 구성해 마치 작가가 집필한 듯한 책의 느낌을 주어 시기를 나누었다. 집필 과정의 포맷을 활용한 이번 앨범은 전체적으로 솔직한 산이 내면의 깊은 성찰을 이야기하였으며, 이를 통해 단순한 음악 자체를 넘어 그 어느 때보다 스스로에 대한 많은 고민과 고찰이 담겨 있는 앨범으로 완성시켰다. 또한, 이번에도 역시 전곡의 프로듀싱은 물론 자켓 디자인, 뮤직비디오 컨셉팅 등 전반적인 앨범 제작 과정에 적극 참여하며 단순한 래퍼를 넘어서 아티스트 산이로서의 면모를 다시 한번 각인시켜준다.
