Davda has spent the past few years constantly on the move. She found a new home, said goodbye to friends, and met new ones. Leaving Korea behind, she performed in Taiwan, Japan, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Germany, and other places, encountering different weather, seasons, times, and spaces, running and playing to her heart's content. Whenever she returned to Davda's studio to play together, her past experiences naturally accumulated like fragments. Gathering these fragments, Davda completed her new work, [On (百)].

The word 'On' is a pure Korean word meaning everything or the whole. It is also an old word meaning the number '100'. Following her first album [But, All the Shining Things Are], which sang about things that still shine, and her EP [Yonder], which captured the nature that exists beyond, which she longs for and wishes for, Davda speaks about the mindset and attitude of wanting to live in her new work [On (百)].

In this rapidly changing era, is it truly possible to live out '100'? I am not entirely sure, but I know it is difficult to do so solely through our own strength. Consequently, we ask ourselves if we are the ones at fault (Choo-Choo), and doubt whether we truly existed (DDDD!). We pile up questions deep inside our mouths (Dear Hope), keep missing the past even while aware of it (tomato), or find relief in thinking we barely made it through today (circle). However, ultimately, the repressed feelings awaken, and we resolve to live to the very end—that is what Davda considers 'On (100).' And I would like to share these feelings with you.

The most significant change in this new release is the addition of new member Park Jung-woong. With the addition of Jung-woong, who has been active as a solo artist and session musician, Davda has accumulated a new range of sounds. The song where you can experience these sounds most prominently is the title track, “On (百).” Furthermore, most of the new album was recorded in Davda’s studio. Having made various attempts to create a sound unique to Davda, the group chose self-recording as the best method to capture that sound, and member Noh Geo-hyeon, who handled the mixing for previous pre-release singles, took charge of the overall recording and mixing.

“On (百)—if we were to divide our body and mind into 100 and live. We live proving that we still exist. And we know that there are still things that shine. (1st Album But, All the Shining Things Are) However, ordinary life is often made up of time spent arduously enduring. If so, is it possible to ‘live On (百)’? How distant, and how fleeting, is it to divide our body, mind, and time into a hundred and fill that amount to live? We live by subtracting many things under the name of conserving our energy. Under the word ‘intentional,’ things lost in reality—involuntary—accumulate. Living in such a subdued state, can we truly say that we have lived completely? Nevertheless, we speak of the resolve to live to the very end. ‘Living On’ may not be about living life by completely filling it up, but perhaps closer to the attitude of saying that we will live to the very end.”

Davda is a four-member indie rock band loved by fans of the live scene for their intricately varied instrumentation and live energy. With meaningful space and complex details coexisting within a single style, Davda aims to transcend the genre of math rock and become a band that resonates with the youth of the world. Following their debut EP [Each Island] in 2016, they released their first full-length album [But, All The Shining Things Are] in 2020, and subsequently released the collaboration single [Jungle Gym] with Toe's Takashi Kashikura in 2021. With the release of the EP [Yonder] in August 2023, they have continued active participation in domestic and international festivals and overseas tours. In 2026, they released their second full-length album [On (百)] alongside a world tour.

다브다는 지난 몇 년간 끊임없이 움직이며 시간을 보냈다. 새로운 보금자리를 만나고 친구를 떠나 보내고 새로운 친구를 만났다. 한국을 벗어나 대만, 일본, 태국, 필리핀, 베트남, 독일 등에서 다른 날씨와 계절, 시간, 공간을 만나 마음껏 뛰고 놀며 공연을 했다. 다시 다브다의 작업실로 돌아와 합주할 때면 자연스럽게 그 동안의 경험들이 조각처럼 쌓여갔다. 그 조각들을 모아 다브다는 신작 [온(百)]을 완성했다.

'온'이라는 단어는 모든 것, 전부를 뜻하는 순우리말이다. 숫자 '100'을 뜻하는 옛말이기도 하다. 여전히 빛나는 것들에 대해 노래했던 1집 [But, All the Shining Things Are], 저 너머에 존재하는, 갈망하고 기원하는 자연을 담아낸 EP [Yonder]에 이어 신작 [온(百)]에서 다브다는 살아보겠다는 마음과 태도에 대해 이야기한다.

매일 빠르게 변화하는 현 시대에서 '100'만큼 살아낸다는 것이 가능한 것일까? 잘 모르겠지만 우리만의 힘으로는 어렵다는 것을 안다. 그래서 우리는 잘못한 게 나인지 다시 묻기도 하며(Choo-Choo), 내가 정말 존재했던 걸까 의심하기도 한다(DDDD!). 내 입 속에 물음들을 아득히 쌓아놓기도 하고(Dear Hope) 지난 시간들을 알면서도 계속 놓치거나(tomato) 오늘을 겨우 살아냈다며(동그라미) 안심하기도 한다. 하지만 결국, 미뤄 둔 마음들이 살아나 다시 끝까지 살아보겠다고 다짐하는 것, 그것이 다브다가 생각하는 '온(百)'이다. 그리고 그 마음들을 여러분들과 함께 나눠보고자 한다.

이번 신작에서 가장 달라진 것은 새 멤버 박정웅의 합류이다. 솔로 활동으로, 다양한 세션으로 활동해온 정웅의 합류로 다브다에겐 좀 더 새로운 소리들이 쌓였다. 그 소리를 가장 크게 경험해볼 수 있는 곡은 타이틀곡 “온(百)”이다. 그리고 신작은 대부분 다브다의 작업실에서 녹음했다. 그 동안 다브다 만의 소리를 만들기 위해 다양한 시도를 해온 다브다는 그 소리를 가장 잘 담아낼 수 있는 방법으로 셀프 레코딩을 선택했고, 지난 선공개 싱글들의 믹스를 맡았던 멤버 노거현이 전체적인 레코딩과 믹스를 담당했다.

“온(百), 몸과 마음을 100으로 나누어 산다면. 우리는 여전히 존재하고 있음을 증명하며 살아간다. 그리고 여전히 빛나는 것들이 있다는 것도 알고 있다. (1집 But, All the Shining Things Are) 그러나 보통의 삶은 종종 지난하게 버티는 시간으로 이루어져 있다. 그렇다면 '온(百)을 산다'는 것은 가능한 일일까. 우리의 몸과 마음, 그리고 시간을 백으로 나누어 그만큼을 채워 살아낸다는 것은 얼마나 아득하며, 얼마나 섬광 같은 일인가. 우리는 체력 안배라는 이름 아래 많은 것을 덜어내며 살아간다. 의도적이라는 말 아래, 사실은 비자발적으로 잃어버린 것들이 쌓여간다. 그렇게 덜어진 모습으로 살아가면서도 우리는 과연 완전히 살아냈다고 말할 수 있을까. 그럼에도 불구하고 우리는 끝까지 살아보겠다는 마음에 대해 이야기한다. '온을 산다'는 것은 삶을 완전히 채워 살아내는 일이 아니라, 어쩌면 끝까지 살아보겠다고 말하는 태도에 더 가까울지도 모른다.”
