Archiving of a Private Gaze, the First Record


The [Record] series is a project that archives private daily life experienced and felt within places, or sometimes objects or people, taking them as its subject.
The first record, 'Beopheung,' is the name of the neighborhood where I currently reside. This is the result of my work, created with the hope that sounds that can be produced solely when desired will be layered upon the private thoughts, experiences, and sounds of daily life from days spent here.
Choi Young-doo was responsible for the composition, arrangement, performance, and technical work of all tracks, while Kim Ki-jo contributed to the artwork.
This album will be released simultaneously as a digital album and on cassette tape produced by Analogue Media Technologies.


-Work Notes-
After updating the OS, several plugins that had been working fine stopped. As the major plugins stopped, my work came to a halt as well. After piecing together the reasons, I found that they had "kindly" written a note saying they had prepared a new version and I needed to pay again. (Even though I clearly paid full price for these tools), their logic is that I must pay more to use them simply because time has passed. This was accompanied by a veiled threat that using them for free would cause errors. To think I cannot use my own equipment as I please and have to depend on someone else's policy...

Of course, we cannot completely exclude computer-based work in the current environment. However, I felt that we could not leave all tasks to this system. I felt the need for a different form of work.

So I purchased analog equipment. (That said, achieving perfect analog is still a long way off.) Still, the machine was honest. When I turn it on, it makes a sound, and when I turn the knob, it changes. Even if it breaks down after ten years, it won't turn a blind eye and demand an 'update.' A small space has been created in a corner where I can produce sound whenever I want, without asking for anyone's permission.

사적인 시선의 아카이빙, 그 첫 번째 기록


[기록] 시리즈는 장소, 때로는 사물 혹은 사람을 주제로 삼아 그 안에서 경험하고 느낀 사적인 일상을 아카이빙하는 프로젝트다.
그 첫 번째 기록인 '법흥'은 현재 거주 중인 동네의 지명이다. 이곳에서 보낸 어느 날의 사적인 생각과 경험, 그리고 일상의 소리들 위에 오롯이 원할 때 낼 수 있는 소리가 덧입혀지기를 바라며 작업한 결과물이다.
전 곡의 작곡, 편곡, 연주, 기술작업에는 최영두, 아트웍에는 김기조가 함께 하였다.
이번 앨범은 디지털 앨범과 함께 Analogue Media Technologies를 통해 제작한 카세트 테이프를 동시 발매한다.


-작업 노트-
OS를 업데이트 했더니 잘 돌아가던 플러그인들 중 몇 개가 멈췄다. 주요 플러그인이 멈추니 하던 작업도 함께 멈췄다. 이유를 찾아 종합해 보니 결국은 새 버전을 준비했으니 다시 돈을 내라는 이야기를 친절하게 적어놨다. (분명 제값을 치르고 산 도구들인데) 시간이 지났으니 비용을 더 내야 쓸 수 있다는 논리다. 그냥 쓰면 오류가 날 거라는 협박 아닌 협박과 함께. 내 물건을 내 마음대로 쓰지 못하고 누군가의 정책에 매달려야 한다니...

물론 지금의 환경에서 컴퓨터를 통한 작업을 완전히 배제할 수는 없다. 하지만 이 시스템에 모든 작업을 맡겨둘 수는 없다는 생각이 들었다. 다른 형태의 작업 방식의 필요성을 느꼈다.

그래서 아날로그 장비를 구입했다. (그렇다고 완벽한 아날로그는 아직 힘들다) 그래도 기계는 정직했다. 전원을 넣으면 소리가 나고, 노브를 돌리면 변한다. 십 년이 지나서 고장이 날지언정 '업데이트'를 요구하며 나 몰라라 하지않을 것이다. 누군가의 허락을 구하지 않고 내가 원할 때 언제든 소리를 낼 수 있는 환경이 한 켠에 조그맣게 만들어졌다.
