Hello everyone! This is Charlie Bean from Charlie Bean Works.
Do you remember the day when you felt a spark in your heart and started dreaming about something?
There will be days when you dream of love, thinking, "Ah! This is the one!", and there will also be days when you find something to dedicate your short life to, thinking, "Wow! This is it!"
I've had quite a few days like that. I particularly vividly remember the day I dreamed of making my own vinyl record.
A few years ago, while I was making music in Ulsan, I formed a band with Jinwoo, who plays bass and sings in the Roosters, and Suyeong, who was in the Teddy Boys.
One day, I was invited to Jinwoo's housewarming party and while we were having fun, he played the Yoo Jae-ha LP he had. Since I had almost no experience listening to LPs, I was so excited that I begged him to play it quickly. Unable to give in to my urging, he played the album, and [Our Love] began with a noise sound like burning firewood and an opaque and disorganized range of sounds that were buried in the drum fill.
As I was drinking and listening to that album, I started to wonder, "Huh? It's different from what I used to hear digitally. Why? I wonder. Are the other albums like that too?"
The next day, I bought a turntable, bought a bunch of LPs from a used LP store for as cheap as I could, spread them out, and started listening to them, comparing them to the digital sources I was listening to.
I had only encountered music in clean digital form made up of 0s and 1s, but when I physically recorded it on vinyl, it came out very crudely, the record was warped and the pitch was unstable, and I also discovered that the output values of the instruments were different from the digital sound source. I wanted to find out more in detail, so I connected the turntable to the DAW and started recording all the vinyl I bought.
As I was tinkering with that recording on my own, I started to wonder more about my curiosity, and the questions that arose from those questions, and I ended up with the question, "What about mine? What would happen if I made an LP of mine?"
Just like when I first heard Queen as a child and my curiosity about music began to grow wildly, it felt like I was back in my childhood, and that growing curiosity quickly turned into a desire, and I dreamed of learning more about this amazing phenomenon of music being physically transmitted.
I entrusted the mastering of the LP to the US again, and even emailed critic Jeong Min-gap for the liner notes, working on them every day with excitement.
On the day the mastering came out, I was looking at the master in the studio and kept exclaiming, “Wow!” and thinking to myself, “This is what a vinyl master would definitely be like,” and many of the parts that matched up, and the newly discovered frequency waveforms made me even more excited.
I asked the critic for the liner notes, and the last sentence in the reply email was, "Good luck," and it made me feel a little emotional, as if someone had finally recognized my efforts.
And now, those times have come together and the vinyl I've been waiting for has finally arrived for you.
Actually, these days, most musicians release their albums on a single LP, so it may not seem like a big deal, but for me, whose roots are in old pop and rock and roll, this vinyl record is truly precious.
I lit a fire in my heart as I opened each and every record I had collected while digging, and tried to maintain the template of the old-fashioned album covers that were being mass-produced at the time as much as possible. I worked with utmost concentration on the characteristics of those vinyl records and the tone and manner I wanted to express based on those characteristics.
I'm as excited as I am worried, but I hope you remember that I put all my effort into this album so that those who receive it can feel that it's not just any vinyl.

안녕하세요 여러분! 찰리빈웍스의 찰리빈입니다.
혹시 여러분께서는 가슴에 팟! 하고 스파크가 튀며 무언가에 대한 꿈을 꾸기 시작한 날을 기억하시나요?
'아! 이 사람이다!' 라며 사랑에 대한 꿈을 꾼 날도 있을 테고, '와 씨! 이거다!' 라며 짧은 인생에 이 한몸 던질 일을 찾은 날도 있을 테고요.
저도 그런 날들이 꽤 있었는데요. 특히 저는 그중 나의 바이닐반을 만들고 싶다는 꿈을 꾼 날을 꽤 강렬히 기억하고 있습니다.
몇 년 전 울산에서 음악을 만들던 중, 루스터스에서 베이스를 치며 노래를 부르는 진우 형님과 테디보이즈에서 함께 활동했던 수영이와 울산에서 밴드를 꾸리고 음악을 하고 있었습니다.
어느 날 진우 형님의 집들이에 초대되어 즐겁게 놀던 중, 형님이 가지고 계시던 유재하 LP를 틀어주셨는데 저는 LP로 음반을 들었던 경험이 거의 없어서 기대에 차 빨리 틀어달라고 졸랐고 저의 성화에 못이겨 플레이된 음반에서는 장작이 타듯 올라오는 노이즈 소리와 함께 불투명한 듯 정리되지 않은 음역대들이 드럼 필인에 묻어나오며 [우리들의 사랑]이 시작 되었습니다.
그 음반을 쭉 들으며 술을 마시는데 계속 '어? 디지털로 듣던 거랑 다르네? 왜지? 궁금하네? 다른 음반들도 그런가?' 라는 궁금증이 생기기 시작했습니다.
그다음 날 저는 바로 턴테이블을 사고, 중고 LP 매장에서 최대한 저렴한 LP들을 잔뜩 사 모아 펼쳐놓고 제가 듣던 디지털 음원들과 LP를 비교하며 청음하기 시작했습니다.
0과 1의 데이터로 이루어진 깔끔한 디지털에서만 접해보았던 음악들이 물리적으로 기록된 바이닐에서는 굉장히 투박하게 출력되기도 하고, 판이 휘어 피치가 흔들리기도 하다가, 또 디지털 음원과는 다른 악기들의 출력값들을 발견하기도 하면서 더욱 세부적으로 알아보고 싶어 턴테이블을 DAW에 연결한 뒤 사온 바이닐들을 죄다 녹음하기 시작했습니다.
그 녹음본을 혼자서 막 쪼물딱거리며 궁금증에 대한 또 다른 궁금증과, 거기서 파생되는 물음들이 얽히더니 '내 거는? 내 거를 LP로 만들면 어떻게 될까? 라는 궁금증에 최종적으로 도달하게 됩니다.
어릴 적 퀸을 처음 듣고 음악에 대한 궁금증이 미친 듯이 불어나기 시작했던 그때처럼, 마치 어린아이로 돌아간 것처럼 불어나는 궁금증은 금세 열망으로 변하고, 이 물리적으로 음악이 송출되는 신기한 현상을 더 알아보고 싶다는 꿈이 생겼습니다.
미국에 다시 LP용 마스터링을 맡기고, 라이너 노트를 위해 서정민갑 평론가님께 메일도 드리며 매일매일 설레는 마음으로 작업을 진행했습니다.
마스터링이 나온 날 작업실에서 마스터를 뜯어보며 계속 “와!”를 내밷으며 저 혼자 '분명 바이닐 마스터는 이럴 것이다 .'라며 생각했던 부분들이 상당수 일치하고 또 새롭게 알게 된 주파수들의 파형은 저를 더욱 흥분하게 해주었습니다.
평론가님께 라이너노트를 부탁드리며 회신받은 메일의 마지막 문장에 '건투를 빌며'라는 문장이 마치 너의 노력을 드디어 알아주시는 사람이 생겼다는 생각에 울컥하기도 했구요.
그리고 그 시간들이 모여 이제, 그토록 바라던 저의 바이닐이 여러분께 가게 되었습니다.
사실 요즘은 대부분의 뮤지션들이 자신의 앨범을 LP 한 장씩 내기 때문에 크게 대단한 일처럼 보이지 않을 수도 있지만, 올드팝과 로큰롤이 뿌리가 되었던 저에게 이 바이닐반은 정말 소중한 음반입니다.
제가 디깅하며 사 모았던 음반들을 한 장 한 장 뜯어보며 가슴에 불을 지피고, 당시 양산되던 촌스러운 앨범 커버들의 템플릿을 최대한 유지하고자 노력했으며, 그 바이닐들의 성질과 그 성질을 토대로 표현하고 싶었던 톤 앤 매너에 최대한 집중해 작업하였습니다.
많이 설레는 만큼 걱정도 앞서지만, 그럼에도 음반을 받으시는 분들께 절대 그냥 만든 바이닐이 아님을 느끼게 해드리고 싶은 마음으로 온 힘을 다해 작업한 음반임을 기억해주셨으면 합니다.

안녕하세요 여러분! 찰리빈웍스의 찰리빈입니다.
혹시 여러분께서는 가슴에 팟! 하고 스파크가 튀며 무언가에 대한 꿈을 꾸기 시작한 날을 기억하시나요?
'아! 이 사람이다!' 라며 사랑에 대한 꿈을 꾼 날도 있을 테고, '와 씨! 이거다!' 라며 짧은 인생에 이 한몸 던질 일을 찾은 날도 있을 테고요.
저도 그런 날들이 꽤 있었는데요. 특히 저는 그중 나의 바이닐반을 만들고 싶다는 꿈을 꾼 날을 꽤 강렬히 기억하고 있습니다.
몇 년 전 울산에서 음악을 만들던 중, 루스터스에서 베이스를 치며 노래를 부르는 진우 형님과 테디보이즈에서 함께 활동했던 수영이와 울산에서 밴드를 꾸리고 음악을 하고 있었습니다.
어느 날 진우 형님의 집들이에 초대되어 즐겁게 놀던 중, 형님이 가지고 계시던 유재하 LP를 틀어주셨는데 저는 LP로 음반을 들었던 경험이 거의 없어서 기대에 차 빨리 틀어달라고 졸랐고 저의 성화에 못이겨 플레이된 음반에서는 장작이 타듯 올라오는 노이즈 소리와 함께 불투명한 듯 정리되지 않은 음역대들이 드럼 필인에 묻어나오며 [우리들의 사랑]이 시작 되었습니다.
그 음반을 쭉 들으며 술을 마시는데 계속 '어? 디지털로 듣던 거랑 다르네? 왜지? 궁금하네? 다른 음반들도 그런가?' 라는 궁금증이 생기기 시작했습니다.
그다음 날 저는 바로 턴테이블을 사고, 중고 LP 매장에서 최대한 저렴한 LP들을 잔뜩 사 모아 펼쳐놓고 제가 듣던 디지털 음원들과 LP를 비교하며 청음하기 시작했습니다.
0과 1의 데이터로 이루어진 깔끔한 디지털에서만 접해보았던 음악들이 물리적으로 기록된 바이닐에서는 굉장히 투박하게 출력되기도 하고, 판이 휘어 피치가 흔들리기도 하다가, 또 디지털 음원과는 다른 악기들의 출력값들을 발견하기도 하면서 더욱 세부적으로 알아보고 싶어 턴테이블을 DAW에 연결한 뒤 사온 바이닐들을 죄다 녹음하기 시작했습니다.
그 녹음본을 혼자서 막 쪼물딱거리며 궁금증에 대한 또 다른 궁금증과, 거기서 파생되는 물음들이 얽히더니 '내 거는? 내 거를 LP로 만들면 어떻게 될까? 라는 궁금증에 최종적으로 도달하게 됩니다.
어릴 적 퀸을 처음 듣고 음악에 대한 궁금증이 미친 듯이 불어나기 시작했던 그때처럼, 마치 어린아이로 돌아간 것처럼 불어나는 궁금증은 금세 열망으로 변하고, 이 물리적으로 음악이 송출되는 신기한 현상을 더 알아보고 싶다는 꿈이 생겼습니다.
미국에 다시 LP용 마스터링을 맡기고, 라이너 노트를 위해 서정민갑 평론가님께 메일도 드리며 매일매일 설레는 마음으로 작업을 진행했습니다.
마스터링이 나온 날 작업실에서 마스터를 뜯어보며 계속 “와!”를 내밷으며 저 혼자 '분명 바이닐 마스터는 이럴 것이다 .'라며 생각했던 부분들이 상당수 일치하고 또 새롭게 알게 된 주파수들의 파형은 저를 더욱 흥분하게 해주었습니다.
평론가님께 라이너노트를 부탁드리며 회신받은 메일의 마지막 문장에 '건투를 빌며'라는 문장이 마치 너의 노력을 드디어 알아주시는 사람이 생겼다는 생각에 울컥하기도 했구요.
그리고 그 시간들이 모여 이제, 그토록 바라던 저의 바이닐이 여러분께 가게 되었습니다.
사실 요즘은 대부분의 뮤지션들이 자신의 앨범을 LP 한 장씩 내기 때문에 크게 대단한 일처럼 보이지 않을 수도 있지만, 올드팝과 로큰롤이 뿌리가 되었던 저에게 이 바이닐반은 정말 소중한 음반입니다.
제가 디깅하며 사 모았던 음반들을 한 장 한 장 뜯어보며 가슴에 불을 지피고, 당시 양산되던 촌스러운 앨범 커버들의 템플릿을 최대한 유지하고자 노력했으며, 그 바이닐들의 성질과 그 성질을 토대로 표현하고 싶었던 톤 앤 매너에 최대한 집중해 작업하였습니다.
많이 설레는 만큼 걱정도 앞서지만, 그럼에도 음반을 받으시는 분들께 절대 그냥 만든 바이닐이 아님을 느끼게 해드리고 싶은 마음으로 온 힘을 다해 작업한 음반임을 기억해주셨으면 합니다.

※ 재킷/구성품/포장 상태
1) 명백한 재생 불량 외에 경미한 재킷 주름, 모서리 눌림, 갈라짐 등은 반품/교환 대상이 아님을 양해 부탁드립니다.
2) 속지(이너 슬러브)는 디스크와의 접촉으로 인해 갈라질 수도 있는데, 이는 반품/교환 대상이 아닙니다.
3) 디스크 라벨은 공정상 매끄럽게 부착되지 않을 수도 있습니다.
4) 본품에 문제가 없는 겉포장 비닐의 손상은 교환/반품 대상이 아닙니다.
※ 재생 불량
1) 톤암 혹은 무게 조절 기능이 없는 턴테이블을 사용하시는 경우, (주로 올인원 형태 모델) 다이내믹 사운드의 편차가 큰 트랙을 재생할 때 튀는 현상이 발생할 수 있는데 이는 대부분 가벼운 톤암 무게가 원인입니다.
기기 문제로 인해 발생하는 재생 불량 현상에 대해서는 반품/교환이 불가하니 톤암 조절이 가능한 기기에서 재생하실 것을 권유 드립니다.
2) 디스크는 정전기와 먼지로 인해 재생이 원활하지 않은 경우가 있습니다. 전용 제품으로 이를 제거하면 대부분 해결됩니다.
3) 바늘에 먼지가 쌓이는 경우에도 재생이 원활하지 않을 수 있습니다.
※ 디스크 이상
1) 디스크 표면이 울렁거리거나 휘어지는 경우가 있습니다. 재생에 이상이 있는 경우에만 반품이나 교환이 가능합니다.
2) 재생 음역의 왜곡을 최소화하고 반복 재생 시에도 최대한 일관되게 유지되도록 디스크 센터 홀 구경이 작게 제작되는 경우가 있습니다. 턴테이블 스핀들에 맞지 않는 경우에는 전용 제품 등을 이용하여 센터 홀을 조정하시면 해결됩니다.
3) 간혹 디스크에 미세한 잔흠집이 남아있거나 마감이 깨끗하지 않은 경우가 있습니다. 재생에 이상이 있는 경우에만 반품이나 교환이 가능합니다.
※ 컬러 디스크
1) 컬러 디스크는 웹 이미지와 실제 색상이 차이가 날 수 있습니다.
2) 컬러 디스크의 특성상 제작 공정 시 앨범마다 색상 차이가 나는 경우도 있습니다.
3) 컬러 디스크는 제작 과정에서 발생한 작은 점이나 다른 색상 염료가 섞여 들어갈 수 있습니다.
※ 교환/반품 안내
1) 명백한 불량으로 인한 교환/반품 요청 시에는 불량 내역을 확인할 수 있는 사진 및 동영상과 재생기기 모델명을 첨부하여 고객센터에 문의 바랍니다.
2) LP는 잦은 배송 과정에서 재킷에 손상이 발생할 가능성이 높고 재판매가 어려우므로 오구매, 변심으로 인한 반품은 어렵습니다. 신중한 구매를 부탁드립니다.
