지금까지 ‘AKMU’ 앨범은 이찬혁, 이수현이 자라온 성장과 경험을 바탕으로 그 나이대에 느낄 수 있는 생각과 감정을 오롯이 음악으로 담아내어 다양한 세대의 공감을 이끌었다.

1집 [PLAY] 앨범은 어린아이처럼 순수한 마음으로 아무 걱정 없이 즐기며 살아가는 소위 ‘노는 음악’을 선보였다면, 2집 [사춘기] 앨범에서는 조금 더 성장하여 세상 만물에 대한 호기심과 의구심을 가지다가도 ‘오랜 날 오랜 밤’ 같은 곡으로 첫사랑을 이야기하는 질풍노도의 시기를 겪었다.
20대가 된 후 처음 발매하는 정규앨범 3집 [항해]에서 이찬혁, 이수현이 들려주고자 하는 이야기는 무엇일까.

그동안의 ‘AKMU’ 앨범이라면 생소하게 느껴졌을 ‘이별’을 앨범 안에 전반적으로 다루면서도 은유적으로 표현한 가사와 대비되는 밴드 사운드를 기반으로 하여 자칫 무거울 수 있는 이별의 감성을 보다 쿨하고 담백하게 풀어내고자 했다.

또한, 밴드 사운드의 완성도를 높이기 위해 ‘AKMU BAND’ 이현영, 구본암뿐만 아니라 하림, 적재, 홍소진, 홍준호, 최인성 등 각 분야의 실력파 밴드 뮤지션들이 편곡과 세션으로 참여하며 ‘AKMU표 밴드 사운드’를 구현하였다.
