Akdong Musician, who sings sympathetic daily life with a special sensibility, is back with a new album [Puberty Award].
Akdong Musician, who returned two years after their debut album [PLAY] released in 2014, chose 'puberty' as the album's title, an emotion that everyone experiences at least once. Normally, we think of puberty as a passing time in our teens or as a sensitive and complicated period, but Akdong Musician thinks that it can come to anyone, regardless of gender or age, at any time, and considers puberty as 'the time when spring comes in thoughts'. It was released from their own point of view. And each emotion of that moment was recorded as a song and captured in the album [Puberty Award].
The title songs 'RE-BYE' and 'People Are Moving' are tracks that represent the emotions of puberty. This song was written while remembering the days in Mongolia, when meetings and partings were particularly frequent. I wanted to express the heart that the main character, who was hurt by repeated breakups, does not want to be hurt anymore. Rather than giving affection to someone in front of a breakup that will come anyway, by depicting the main character who learned how to break up without regret and the people who regret it, I hope that I can sympathize with people who are going through big and small breakups in a world where it is difficult to share true affection. It is a song made from the heart.
02 What people move
One summer day, in a stopped car, I could clearly see the people passing by laughing and talking and walking. As a result, I poured out my curiosity in people's daily movements and asked questions about things that I took for granted. I hope that people will realize that hands and feet that move as if they are taken for granted and life that they live as if they are taken for granted are actually very special and amazing gifts.
03 Suddenly why
I wanted to show the excitement between a timid woman and a timid man who want to confirm each other's feelings. I drew a lot of men and women who react sensitively to every little action of the other person, but are unable to approach each other because they are worried about whether this feeling is love or an illusion of their own. 'Who can do it right from the start?' I wanted to sincerely support the dreams of young people with the message that I hope 'Green Changga' is a song that helps those who are trapped in a dark room while struggling and frustrated because things don't go their way, jump out to the green meadow outside the window and fly toward their dreams. It's a song that I started working on with the thought that while I was looking for something new and hopeful, I might be missing the most important things around me. When I thought of myself in the days called 'puberty', the thought I had the most was 'Why am I the only one like this?' 만남과 헤어짐이 유독 잦았던 몽골에서의 시절을 떠올리며 쓴 곡이다. 반복되는 이별 속에 상처받은 주인공이 더 이상 상처받고 싶지 않은 마음을 표현해보고 싶었다. 어차피 찾아올 헤어짐 앞에 누군가에게 정을 주기 보단 미련없이 헤어지는 방법을 터득한 주인공과 이를 야속해하는 사람들을 묘사하여 진정한 정을 나누기 어려워진 요즘 세상의 모습에서, 크고 작은 이별을 겪는 사람들과 함께 공감할 수 있었으면 하는 마음으로 만든 노래이다.
