Defined as Kim Sung-kyu's first mini-album [Another me], his solo debut album brings out a new voice in search of another Kim Sung-kyu who was hidden under the name of Infinite's leader Sung-kyu. The mini-album [Another me], which was produced in strict secrecy without even being known to Infinite fans, was focused on finding a new voice for Kim Sung-kyu step by step, despite the tight schedule of going back and forth between Japan and Korea. The first work with Kim Jong-wan, the leader of Nell, which can be said to be the vast source of Kim Seong-gyu's music. And a new modern rock experiment with Sweetune, the best melody maker in K-POP. In addition, another collaboration with Nell's bassist Lee Jung-hoon, composer of Kim Sung-kyu's 'Because', was made solidly as if experimenting with the possibility of a new Kim Sung-kyu, not an extension of Infinite's leader Sung-kyu.

김성규의 첫 번째 미니 앨범 [Another me(또 다른 나)]로 정의된 솔로 데뷔 앨범은 인피니트의 리더 성규라는 이름 안에 숨겨져 있던 또 다른 김성규를 찾아 새로운 목소리를 꺼낸다. 인피니트의 팬들에게 조차 알려지지 않은 채 극비리에 작업된 미니 앨범 [Another me]는 일본과 한국을 오가는 빠듯한 스케줄 속에서도 차곡차곡 김성규의 새로운 목소리를 찾는 데 주력했다. 김성규 음악의 드넓은 원천이라 할 수 있는 넬의 리더 김종완과의 첫 번째 작업. 그리고 K-POP 최고의 멜로디메이커인 스윗튠과의 새로운 모던록의 실험. 또한 김성규의 ‘Because’ 작곡자이자 넬의 베이시스트인 이정훈과의 또 다른 콜라보레이션 등 인피니트의 리더 성규의 연장선이 아닌 새로운 김성규의 가능성을 위해 실험하듯 앨범을 단단하게 만들어 냈다.

그 결과 완성된 타이틀 곡 ‘60초’는 인피니트의 ‘추격자’, ‘내꺼하자’, ‘파라다이스’ 같은 히트 댄스 넘버를 만든 스윗튠의 작품이라 생각하기 어려울 정도로 완벽한 모던 록 트랙이 완성되었다. 마치 몸에 딱 맞는 수트를 만들 기 위해 정확한 치수를 재듯 김성규의 목소리에 딱 들어 맞는 음악의 탄생이다. 사랑에 빠지는 데 걸린 시간 60초, 그리고 이별하는 데 걸린 시간 60초. 그 길지도 짧지도 않은 시간 속에서 한 여자와의 설레고 가슴 아픈 울림을 김성규 특유의 애잔한 보이스로 표현한다. 한 곡에 상반된 감정을 표현해야 하는 어려움을 표현하는 게 곡의 관건이었지만 김성규는 자신의 칼 같은 보컬 컨트롤로 감정을 담아냈다.

미니 앨범 발매 전 선공개 되며 각종 음원 차트 상위권을 차지했던 ‘Shine’은 넬의 김종완이 김성규를 위해 처음 선물한 곡으로 많은 화제를 낳았다. ‘Shine’은 몽환적인 인트로에 신스 팝(Synth pop)을 연상시키는 신서사이저. 거기에 일렉트로닉 비트와 록적인 드라이브 기타. 그리고 김성규의 섹시하고 섬세한 보컬로 만들어진 곡으로 음악적인 매력과 대중적인 즐거움을 한 번에 갖춘 하이브리드 뮤직이다.

그리고 넬의 베이시스트 이정훈이 만든 ‘I need you’가 사랑으로 상처를 치유하는 한 남자의 이야기를 노래하고 있다면 ‘41일’은 사랑에 대한 복잡한 감정을 표현했다. 달콤쌉싸름한 미묘한 감정 표현을 김성규의 애절한 목소리로 담아내었다. 특히 ‘41일’은 김성규가 처음 작사에 참여한 곡으로 그 의미를 더한다. 여기에 그 동안 김성규 솔로 버전에 대한 팬들의 요청이 쇄도했던 ‘눈물만’이 드디어 어쿠스틱 솔로 버전으로 수록되어 팬들의 사랑을 받을 것으로 보인다. ‘눈물만’은 인피니트 앨범에 수록된 단체 곡이기도 하지만, 인피니트 콘서트 현장에서 처음 공개된 김성규의 피아노 솔로 버전을 잊지 못하는 팬들을 위한 작은 선물이기도 하다.
