The reason I want to be unrealistic is simple. A world without war, days without quarrels, violence, jealousy, etc., a peaceful day. I hope our music is in these useless and beautiful things that are currently absent from us for various reasons. So, I hope that the three minutes or so of listening to each song will take you away from your boring, ordinary, and simple daily life and into the middle of a crazy, intense love, and sometimes in front of a festival stage built on a green field. I hope that your life will change a little bit because of our music. I hope that our music will be a shelter where you can take a deep breath.

The reason why we want to become reality is also simple. As time passes, the time and memories contained in the music become more precious than the music itself. After we were able to use the name BEAST again, we will forever remember the cheers we heard as soon as the intro of Bad Girl came out at the first concert last year. Ribbon, which made our hearts flutter while we were singing, will now be remembered as something special once again because of the time, space, and us that day, and Lightless has become our own memories created by overlapping all the stages over a very long time. That’s why we will continue to make memories. We like that. As time goes by, the process of releasing an album becomes more and more difficult, and it will continue to be so in the future, but we still plan to continue making music under the name of Highlight. That’s why I hope that one knot called ‘music’ between you and us will bind us together strongly for a long time. So that you don’t feel anxious, and that we will always be a solid, realistic presence by your side when you look back.

Now that I say it like this, it seems pointless to distinguish between reality and unreality, but anyway, what we want to say is simple. To you who listen to this music, to you who like us, we hope that we can continue to be together as some kind of being.

우리는 영원히 당신의 현실/비현실로 남아 있길 바란다.

비현실이 되고 싶은 이유는 단순하다. 전쟁이 없는 세상, 다툼 폭력 시기 질투 따위는 사라져 버린 나날들, 안온하고 평화로운 하루. 다양한 이유로 현재 우리 주위엔 없는 이런 무용하고 아름다운 것들 속에 우리의 음악이 들어 있었으면 좋겠다. 그래서 한 곡 한 곡씩 듣는 그 3분 남짓한 시간들이, 지루하고 평범하고 단순한 일상에서 벗어나 당신을 미치도록 지독한 사랑의 한복판에, 때로는 푸른 들판 위에 지어진 페스티벌 공연장 무대 앞에 데려다 놓길. 당신의 삶이 우리의 음악들로 인해 조금은, 한 번쯤은 바뀌길. 우리의 음악이 당신에게 숨 한번 크게 쉴 수 있는 쉼터가 되길.

현실이 되고 싶은 이유도 단순하다. 시간이 지날수록 음악 자체보다 그 음악에 담긴 시간과 추억이 소중해진다. 우리는 비스트의 이름을 다시 쓸 수 있게 된 후, 작년 콘서트 첫 번째 공연에서 Bad Girl의 전주가 나오자마자 들었던 함성을 영원히 기억할 거다. 부르는 내내 마음이 울컥했던 Ribbon은 이제 그날의 시간과 공간과 우리가 더해져 한 번 더 특별하게 기억될 거고, Lightless는 아주 오랜 동안의 모든 무대가 겹쳐져서 만들어진 우리들 만의 추억이 되었다. 그래서 우리는 계속 기억을 만들 거다. 우리는 그게 좋다. 시간이 가면서 앨범을 내는 과정은 더욱 더 힘들어지고, 또 앞으로도 그러겠지만 그래도 우리는 하이라이트란 이름 아래 계속 음악을 할 생각이다. 그래서 당신과 우리 사이에 '음악'이라는 그런 매듭 하나가 오랫동안 서로를 강하게 묶어 주길 바란다. 당신이 불안하지 않게, 항상 돌아보면 그냥 옆에 있는 어떤 든든한 현실적인 존재가 되게.

이렇게 말하고 보니 사실 현실과 비현실을 굳이 구분 짓는 것도 무의미해 보이지만, 어쨌거나 우리가 말하고 싶은 것은 단순하다. 이 음악을 듣는 당신에게, 우리를 좋아해주는 당신에게, 우리가 어떤 존재로든 계속 함께 할 수 있었으면 좋겠다는 것.

그러니까 결국 어느 노래의 가사 일부분처럼, RIDE OR DIE. 우리에겐 그게 가장 중요하다.
