Description
I live on the second floor. Every time I enter the house, there is a thought or melody that comes to my mind as I climb the few steps. Then I walk faster. I feel like if I miss this now, I'll leave forever. Hurry up the stairs, hurriedly press the door code, throw away the bag as soon as you enter the house, sit in front of the piano or next to the guitar, and record the shape of the song that looks like smoke on the verge of flying away. Sometimes we fail to hold on to it. It's like a stock that went up. Something that wasn't mine.
The clumsy recordings that couldn't escape were gathered and became an album. Not all of these started from stairs, but I quite liked the title of stairs, so I decided to group the non-stairs with the same name. Because it is also a record of each day, stepping forward one by one. I thought that life is like a big stairway leading to death. Once you start climbing, you can't go down, and you have to go up in one direction even if you don't want to. The words are troubling, but in fact, these are very small and everyday songs. Songs that you would hum while meeting friends and going home.
Each song that comes out in the world has its own vitality and path, so it is loved a lot long after it is released, and sometimes it is forgotten forever. Just as children do not grow up as their parents wish, these songs will live on their own. We have no choice but to pray quietly that each of us know our own path in a harsh world and pave it well.
Colleagues who did their best to cooperate in an era where the value of music is not the same as before, a company that believed in me and generously invested in me rather than me trying to reduce my budget because I was afraid I couldn't pass the BEP, and this along with many great music in the world including charts We express infinite gratitude to the listeners who chose to listen to the album.

나는 2층에 산다. 집에 들어올 때마다 몇 안 되는 계단을 오르며 문득 떠오르는 생각이나 멜로디가 있다. 그럼 나는 걸음이 빨라진다. 지금 이걸 놓치면 영영 떠나갈 것만 같아서. 후다닥 계단을 올라 다급히 현관 비밀번호를 누르고 집에 들어오자마자 가방을 내팽개치고 피아노 앞이든 기타 옆이든 앉아서 날아가기 일보 직전의 연기 같은 곡의 형태를 녹음해 가둔다. 가끔 붙잡아두는데 실패하는 경우도 있다. 그건 마치 오른 주식 같은 거다. 내 것이 아니었던 게지.
그렇게 도망가지 못한 어설픈 녹음물들이 모여 앨범이 되었다. 이들 전부가 계단으로부터 시작된 건 아니지만 나는 stairs라는 제목이 꽤나 마음에 들어서 아닌 애들도 그냥 같은 이름으로 묶기로 했다. 한 칸씩 다음을 향해 내딛는 나날의 기록이기도 하니까. 삶이란 어쩌면 죽음에 이르는 커다란 계단 같다는 생각이 들었다. 한 번 오르기 시작하면 내려갈 수도 없고 원치 않아도 한 방향으로 꾸역꾸역 올라가야만 하는. 말이 비장해졌는데 사실 굉장히 소소하고 일상적인 곡들이다. 친구 만나고 집에 들어가면서 흥얼거릴법한 그런 곡들.
세상에 나오는 곡들은 각자의 생명력과 가는 길이 있어서 나온 지 한참 뒤에 큰 사랑을 받기도 하고 영영 잊히기도 한다. 자식이 부모의 바람대로 크지 않는 것처럼 이번 곡들도 제멋대로 살아갈 것이다. 험한 세상에서 각자의 길을 알아서 잘 개척해나가길 조용히 기도하는 수밖에.
음악의 가치가 예전과 같지 않은 시대에 최선을 다해 협력해 준 동료들, BEP 못 넘길까 봐 예산 줄이려는 나보다 나를 믿고 아낌없이 투자해 준 회사, 그리고 차트를 비롯한 세상의 많은 멋진 음악들과 더불어 이 앨범을 듣기로 선택해 준 청자들에게 무한한 감사를 전한다.
