In April 2018, Pentagon takes another leap forward with their 6th mini album [Positive].

The 4th mini album [DEMO_01] and the 5th mini album [DEMO_02], all composed of self-composed songs, have been recognized for each member's ability to compose and write lyrics.

The 6th mini album [Positive] is an album that paints a color that only the Pentagon can digest rather than the music that the Pentagon has digested widely, such as Hip-Hop, EDM, and R&B. You can get a glimpse of the members' ability to repeat.

The title song 'Shine' is also a self-composed song by Hui, who has solidly established himself as the leader and composer of the Pentagon, and is a member of Flow Blow, a production team that has already proven perfect collaboration with Hui with Wanna One's 'Energetic' and 'NEVER'. E'Dawn participated in composing the song and improved the perfection of the song.
'Shine' is a song about unrequited love that loves someone so much but can't bear to confess it and wanders around. It contains a hopeful message about finding one's love in the end. In particular, through straightforward lyrics and addictive hooks such as 'I'm a loser who loves you' and 'I'm a leech to you', I made it easy for anyone to sympathize with and enjoy. It is a song that can feel the bright and cheerful charm that stands out.

The first track, 'OFF-ROAD', is a self-composed song by member Kino. On top of the rough tracks and screaming melodies, lyrics are added to give hope to the youth living in this era. The third track, 'Think' is member Jinho's self-composed song, which expresses the heart of a man who constantly thinks of his lover through cute lyrics and melodies. The sweet and comfortable feeling that awakens the dormant love cells goes well with spring. The fourth track, 'Rap unit', is a rap unit song featuring fun and witty raps unique to Pentagon's rappers E'Dawn, Yuto, and Wooseok. The colorful and sometimes heavy charm of the three members stands out in contrast to the heavy and restrained beat. In particular, member E’Dawn participated in arranging the song this time, enhancing the perfection of the song. The fifth track, 'I Have to Let You Go' is a lyrical ballad about a man who has no choice but to let go of his lover. Words tell me to be happy and stay well, but in fact, anyone who has experienced a breakup will be able to relate to the lyrics, which contain the inner feeling of not wanting to imagine being happy with someone else without me. The last track, 'Let's go together' is a song that conveys the message 'everything will be okay in the end' to everyone living in a tough and difficult world.

2018년 4월, 펜타곤이 미니 6집 [Positive]를 통해 또 한 번 도약에 나선다.

전곡 자작곡으로 채운 미니 4집 [DEMO_01], 미니 5집 [DEMO_02]를 통해 멤버 개개인의 작사?작곡 능력을 인정받았던 펜타곤이 이번에는 다양한 음악적 변화를 시도하며 또 한번의 성장을 이뤄낸다.

미니 6집 [Positive]는 Hip-Hop, EDM, R&B 등 펜타곤이 그간 폭넓게 소화해왔던 음악에서 보다 펜타곤만이 소화해낼 수 있는 색깔을 진하게 칠한 앨범으로 작사?작곡뿐만 아니라 보컬, 랩, 퍼포먼스 등에서 꾸준히 발전을 거듭하는 멤버들의 역량을 엿볼 수 있다.

이번 타이틀 곡 ‘빛나리’ 역시 펜타곤의 리더이자 작곡가로서의 입지를 탄탄히 다진 후이의 자작곡으로, 워너원의 ‘에너제틱’, ‘NEVER’ 등으로 이미 후이와의 완벽한 호흡을 증명한 프로듀싱 팀 Flow Blow와 멤버 이던이 작곡에 함께 참여해 곡의 완성도를 높였다.
‘빛나리’는 누군가를 너무나도 사랑하지만 차마 고백하지 못하고 주변을 서성거리는 짝사랑에 대해 표현한 곡으로 결국은 자신의 사랑을 찾아가는 희망적인 메시지를 담고 있다. 특히 ‘너를 사랑하는 찌질이’, ‘난 너한테는 거머리 겉절이’와 같은 직설적인 가사와 중독성 있는 훅을 통해 누구나 쉽게 공감하고 즐길 수 있도록 했으며, 기존 펜타곤의 음악적 색깔에서 조금 벗어나 피아노 메인 리프와 미니멀한 리듬이 돋보이는 유쾌하고 밝은 매력을 느낄 수 있는 곡이다.

첫 번째 트랙 ‘OFF-ROAD’는 멤버 키노의 자작곡으로, 불완전한 상태에서 자신을 찾아가는 청춘들의 모습을 ‘오프로드’라는 단어에 비유한 곡이다. 거친 트랙과 소리치는듯한 멜로디 위에 이 시대를 살아가는 청춘들에게 희망을 주고자 하는 가사를 더했다. 세 번째 트랙 ‘생각해’는 멤버 진호의 자작곡으로, 시도 때도 없이 사랑하는 연인이 생각나는 남자의 마음을 귀여운 가사와 멜로디로 표현한 곡이다. 잠들어있던 연애 세포를 깨워주는 달콤하고 편안한 느낌이 봄과 어울린다. 네 번째 트랙 ‘재밌겠다 (Rap unit)’는 펜타곤의 래퍼 이던, 유토, 우석 특유의 재미있고 위트있는 랩이 돋보이는 랩 유닛 곡이다. 묵직하고 절제된 비트 위에 대비되는 세 멤버의 화려하고 때로는 무게감 있는 매력이 돋보인다. 특히 이번에는 멤버 이던이 편곡에도 참여하며 곡의 완성도를 높였다. 다섯 번째 트랙 ‘보낼 수밖에’는 사랑하는 연인을 어쩔 수 없이 떠나보내는 남자의 이야기를 담은 서정적인 발라드 곡이다. 말로는 행복하라고, 잘 지내라고 하지만 사실 나 없이 다른 사람과 행복한 모습을 상상하고 싶지 않은 속 마음을 담은 가사는 이별을 경험해본 적 있는 누구나 공감할 수 있을 것이다. 마지막 트랙 ‘함께 가자 우리’는 각박하고 힘든 세상을 살아가는 모든 이에게 ‘결국엔 다 괜찮아 질 거야’라는 메시지를 전하는 곡이다.
