Lee Joo-young is back with her 2nd album [Ballad]. Is it correct to say that I'm back? For more than 10 years, Lee Ju-young has consistently sung songs from her 2nd album through performances. He, who didn't seem to be interested in the completion of music or 'recordings', started organizing old songs just because he wanted to make a new song.

Lee Ju-young reached out to Jung Hyun-seo, the bassist and producer of the electronic band Transparent, as a way to fill the gap between the time the song was made and the time it was released, and added various sounds to the existing acoustic-oriented arrangement. [Ballad], which was co-produced/arranged with Jeong Hyeon-seo, was completed as a delicate and sincere record by combining the energy of the years condensed inside and the objective gaze watching from the outside. Jeong Hyun-seo revived each hidden cell in Lee Ju-young's music with bass performances including flatless and electronic/string arrangements. It created a special moment when the special performance of '' and Lee Ju-young's voice became one. In addition, drummer Kim Dong-ryul and 12-member string joined forces to release 9 completed songs, including the gem-like voice of A-rip Lee in "It's Snowing (Feat. A-rip Lee)," which was pre-released in February.

Lee Ju-young's voice is very calm compared to when it was created. The young man who was so sad that he would forget him and smile at me (dream) shows that he has reached an age where he knows that it is okay even if it ends in a dream, and that it may be better that way. 이주영이 2집 [발라드]를 들고 돌아왔다. 돌아왔다는 말이 맞을까. 이주영은 10년이 넘는 시간 동안 공연을 통해 2집 앨범 수록곡들을 꾸준히 불러왔다. 음악의 완성 또는 '녹음본'에는 관심이 없는 듯 보이던 그가 새 노래를 만들기 위해서라는 이유로 오래된 노래들을 정리하기 시작했고 드디어 많은 이들이 기다리던 '이주영 발라드'를 만날 수 있게 되었다.

이주영은 노래가 만들어진 시절과 발표하는 시절의 간극을 채우기 위한 방법으로 일렉트로닉 밴드 투명의 베이시스트이자 프로듀서인 정현서에게 손을 내밀어 기존의 어쿠스틱 위주의 편곡에 다양한 사운드를 가미했다. 정현서와의 공동 프로듀스/편곡으로 제작된 [발라드]는 안으로 응축된 세월의 에너지와 밖에서 지켜보는 객관적 시선이 합해져 섬세하고 정성스러운 음반으로 완성되었다. 정현서는 플랫리스를 포함한 베이스 연주와 일렉트로닉/스트링 어레인지 등으로 이주영의 음악 곳곳에 숨겨진 세포 하나하나를 살려냈고 1집 작업을 함께했던 대한민국 기타 함춘호가 다시 한번 이주영의 앨범에 참여, 마음을 울리는 함춘호만의 특제 연주와 이주영의 목소리가 하나가 되는 특별한 순간을 만들어냈다. 여기에 드러머 김동률과 12인조 스트링이 합세하여 지난 2월 선공개된 "눈이 내린다 (Feat. 이아립)"의 보석 같은 이아립 목소리를 포함한 9곡의 완성작을 내놓았다.

이제 이주영이 오래 불러온 노래들이 한 호흡이 되어 말한다
그리우니까, 다시 만나자고

이주영의 목소리는 만들어진 때에 비해 매우 담담하다. 그를 잊고 나를 보고 웃으면 좋겠네 (꿈) 라며 구구절절 슬퍼하던 젊은이는 그것이 꿈으로 끝나도 괜찮다는, 어쩌면 그 편이 더 나을 수도 있다는 걸 아는 나이가 되었음을 보여준다. 하지만 지금의 목소리를 그저 지금의 것이라고만 할 수 있을까. 세월이 다 묻어 있는 노래, 그러니까 '오래된 노래'보다는 '오래 불러온 노래'가 정확한 말일 것이다.

간절하고 질척이는 듯 느껴지는 이주영의 [발라드] 안에는
