After announcing a splendid comeback with the pre-release of the ballad number 'Clenched Fists' that exceeded expectations, BEAST announced a new album titled 'Mastermind'. 〈Mastermind〉 is the title of this album and the title of the intro track, which means 'an outstanding person who controls something precisely'. This contains BEAST's ambition to completely break away from the mold of rookies and lead the public with their own music.
[Breath], which follows the first track [Mastermind], which makes you look forward to the performance the moment you hear it with magnificent string sound and intense beat music, is the secret title song that will upgrade BEAST to the next level. Composers Shinsadong Tiger, Choi Gyu-seong, and Rado's song, member Yong Jun-hyung participated in writing the lyrics, and the strong synth riff, drums, and BEAST's vocals harmonize well, showing a high level of perfection. In particular, the dramatic development, Yang Yoseob's amazing vocal ad-libs, and a unique ending that is not common in popular songs make the title song 'Breath' stand out even more.

기대 이상의 발라드 넘버 ‘주먹을 꽉 쥐고’를 선공개하며 화려한 컴백을 알린 비스트가 〈Mastermind〉란 당찬 타이틀의 새 앨범을 발표했다. 〈Mastermind〉란 이번 앨범의 타이틀이자 인트로 트랙의 제목으로 ‘무언가를 치밀하게 조종하는 뛰어난 자’를 뜻한다. 이에는 비스트가 신인의 틀을 완전히 벗고 자신들만의 음악으로 대중들을 이끌겠다는 포부가 담겨 있다.
웅장한 스트링 사운드와 강렬한 비트의 음악으로 듣는 순간 퍼포먼스를 기대하게 만드는 첫 트랙 [Mastermind]에 이어지는 [숨]은 비스트를 한 차원 더 업그레이드시킬 비장의 타이틀곡이다. 작곡가 신사동호랭이와 최규성, 라도의 곡에 멤버 용준형이 작사에 참여한 곡으로 강한 신스 리프와 드럼, 비스트의 보컬이 잘 어우러짐으로써 높은 완성도를 보여준다. 특히 드라마틱한 전개와 양요섭의 놀라운 보컬 애드립, 가요에 흔치 않은 독특한 엔딩 등은 타이틀곡 ‘숨’을 더욱 돋보이게 만들고 있다.
또한 비스트의 앨범에 처음 참여하는 슈퍼 창따이의 곡 ‘V.I.U (Very Important U)’는 기존의 비스트와 다르게 중독성 강한 달콤한 멜로디에 멤버들의 개성을 한껏 살린 또렷한 보컬로 비스트의 또 다른 면모를 드러냈다.
용준형의 감성적인 랩과 멤버들의 가창력이 돋보이는 ‘Break Down’은 임상혁, 이주형의 공동 작품으로 강한 신스 사운드 위에 녹아 든 애절함이 인상적이다. 마지막으로 디지털 선공개를 통해 큰 사랑을 받은 ‘주먹을 꽉 쥐고’까지 총 다섯 곡이 모두 다양한 음악적 스펙트럼을 나타내 그 동안 비스트의 음악성이 한층 성숙해졌음을 알 수 있다.
