’프로듀스 101’ 시즌2에서 적은 분량에도 불구하고 인상적인 목소리로 많은 팬들을 사로잡았던 성리는 정식데뷔 전부터 네 곡의 OST를 불러 팬들과 대중들에게 ‘감성보컬’, ‘가창돌’ 이라는 칭호를 받으며 대중음악계과 대중들에게 목소리를 각인시켰으며 그룹 ‘RAINZ’ 활동에서도 기대했던 보컬뿐 아니라 뛰어난 댄스실력까지 제대로 입증된 만큼 첫 솔로앨범도 주목할 지 않을 수 없다.

성리의 첫번째 미니앨범 <첫, 사랑> 은 특유의 단단하면서도 섬세한 보이스와 신인이라고 볼 수 없는 뛰어난 곡 해석력이 돋보이며 RAINZ의 활동과는 전혀 다른 면모를 보이고 있다. 이번 앨범은 댄스 음악에서는 다 꺼낼 수 없었던 그의 가창력을 조명할 수 있는 앨범인 셈이다.

미니 앨범 <첫, 사랑> 은 세상 모든 것이 아름답게 보이고, 가진 모든 걸 다 주고 싶은 첫사랑의 감성을 녹여낸 앨범으로 ‘첫사랑을 겪고 있는, 겪었던 모든 연인들은 위한 러브송’이자 ‘첫번째 앨범, 사랑에 관한 이야기’ 라는 중의적 의미를 담아내며, 사랑에 대한 스토리텔링을 테마로 한 편의 단편영화를 보는 듯한 섬세하며 아름다운 재즈클래식 발라드 곡들을 만날 수 있다.

이번 앨범은 전 JYP 작곡가였으며 2PM, 2AM, UP10TION, 손승연, GOT7 등 유명 아티스트들의 작곡가이자 프로듀서로 활동하였으며, 주목받는 R&B 아티스트인 라이언(Ryan, Imagine Muzik 레이블 수장)이 총괄 프로듀싱을 맡았으며 그와 함께 Myle.D, WOOYOUNG과 작업해 온 Imagine Muzik의 작가진 EJO와 UP10TION의 ‘아무렇지 않은 척’ 작곡가로 유명한 1hz 까지 참여하며 앨범의 퀄리티를 한층 더 끌어올렸다.

앨범 마스터링으로 이번 앨범의 완성도 또한 주목할 만한 점으로 2014년 미국 비틀즈 앨범과 74년 존 레논의 Walls and bridges앨범 등 다수 그래미를 수상한 세계 최고 마스터링 엔지니어 중 한명으로 꼽히는 ‘Greg Calbi(그렉 캘비)’가 마스터링에 참여하며 최상의 사운드를 만날 수 있다는 게 특징이다.
그 외 한국 최고의 세션들 기타리스트 ‘정재필’과 베이시스트 ‘최훈’ 피아노 ‘이영식’ 드럼의 ‘한태용’의 연주까지 김성리의 목소리와 어우러지며 매력적인 앨범을 만들었다.

가벼운 춤을 추며 날아가듯 걷고 있는 소년의 모습을 연상시키는 3박자 템포의 피아노 선율의 인트로곡 ‘Nouvelle Vague(새로운 물결)’를 시작으로 타이틀곡 ‘그게 너라서’ 는 이제까지 겪어 본 적이 없는 것만 같은 사랑을 ‘천사’와 같은 연인에게 고백하는 내용으로 김성리의 섬세한 보이스로 드라마틱하게 표현한 것이 특징이다.
한편의 사극 드라마가 생각나는 듯한 클래식한 멋을 가진 ‘내 품에,’ 사랑에 빠져버린 자신의 마음을 주체할 수 없는 소년의 생각을 여지 없이 옮긴 듯한 ‘아른거려’가 이 앨범을 채우고 있다.
