EP [KIK] is about the recklessness of youth that we have forgotten.
It reminds me of the weight of emotions, and the feeling of 'enjoyment' in the midst of it all.
The method they chose to take their first steps was surprisingly simple.
Just strip down and jump in.

After causing a sensation with 'Shine', Jung Woo-seok of Pentagon continued his activities under Undefined Entertainment.
As a guitarist for Lacuna, Jeong Min-hyeok has developed a deep and delicate sound.
And Oh Myung-seok, the drummer of SURL, has been active globally, including on a US tour.

K-POP and indie, idols and bands.
It is a combination of three people who have walked different paths.
This combination in itself proves how unpredictable it is.
But what's more interesting is that the first sound they put out was

'Timer' is by far the sharpest track on this EP.
Panic and endless running, feeling like you're in a dead end.
In a world where everything flows quickly and no one waits

When I listen to this song, I feel like I can't breathe,

And the last track, 'LP club'.
After breaking through four tracks, the place we arrive at is surprisingly quiet and warm.

EP [KIK]은 우리가 잊고 지낸 청춘의 무모함,
감정의 무게, 그리고 그 한가운데에서 '즐긴다'라는 감각을 상기시킨다.
이들이 첫발을 디디며 택한 방식은 의외로 단순하다.
한껏 벗어 던지고, 그대로 뛰어든다.

'빛나리'로 센세이션을 일으킨 이후 언디파인드엔터테인먼트 소속으로 행보를 이어온펜타곤의 정우석,
Lacuna (라쿠나)의 기타리스트로서 깊고 섬세한 사운드를 쌓아온 정민혁,
그리고 SURL의 드러머로 미국 투어를 포함한 글로벌 활동을 펼쳐온 오명석까지.

K-POP과 인디, 아이돌과 밴드.
이질적인 경로를 걸어온 셋이 함께한다는 것은
그 자체로 이 조합이 얼마나 예측 불가한지를 증명한다.
하지만 그보다 더 흥미로운 건, 그들이 내놓은 첫 사운드가
'무리한 결합'이 아닌 '자연스러운 폭발'에 가깝다는 점이다.

첫 트랙 'Captain's order'는 감정을 놓아야 한다는 사실을 직시하면서도
결국, 손에 쥐고 괴로워하는 처절한 심상을 거친 록 사운드 위에 담았다.

아무것도 바뀌지 않음을 알면서도 깨뜨려보는 충동,
무너져 있으면서도 여전히 그 자리에 선 채 시작되는 KIK의 서사다.

타이틀곡 'SIMPLE'은 전혀 간단하지 않은 세상에 던지는 역설적이고도 직설적인 한 문장이다.
과잉된 현실, 너무 많은 판단, 지쳐가는 마음들 사이에서 '멍청하게 즐겨보자'라는 말은 놀랍게도
가장 정확한 생존 전략처럼 들린다.

'Ferrari'는 잠깐의 한숨과도 같은 곡이다.
현실의 피로에 주저앉아 있다가도,
어느 날 갑자기 옆을 스쳐 가는 자유의 그림자를 바라보며
그 속으로 빨려 들어가고 싶어지는 순간.

도시는 여전히 각박하지만, 그 안에도 여유는 숨어 있다.

'Timer'는 단연코 이 EP에서 가장 날이 서 있다.
막다른 골목에 몰린 듯한 공황과 끝없는 러닝.
모든 게 빠르게 흐르고, 아무도 기다려주지 않는 세상에서
그들은 도망치지 않는다. 대신 끝까지 내달린다.

이 곡을 듣고 있으면 숨이 턱 막힐 것 같다가도,
이 모든 질주의 끝 어딘가에서 분명 빛을 보게 될 것 같은 확신이 든다.


그리고 마지막 트랙 'LP club'.
네 개의 트랙을 뚫고 나와 닿는 곳은 의외로 조용하고 따뜻하다.
무너짐도, 다짐도, 치기 어린 위로도 아닌 진심 하나.
어떤 기억은 바래도 사라지지 않고, 어떤 말은 오래 남는다.

아마도 이 곡은 누군가의 밤을 지켜주는 노래가 될 것이다.

불안보단 확신,
주저함보단 돌파.

앞으로 이 팀의 이름 앞에 '신예'라는 수식어는 오래 남지 않을 것이다.
