I hear you. It was an honor to be the first to hear your story. Thanks to you, lately I've been filled with the purest heart, and I'm writing a reply before this afterglow goes away.

To be honest, 'Shining Night' was quite unexpected. I assumed that La Poem's first album, especially the theme story, would be about the warmest things. Surprisingly, it was a story that paradoxically and beautifully unfolded a terribly sad breakup. From some point on, I became a lyricist who couldn't write 'Goodbye' very sadly. It started when I started to think that breakups depended on the energy that could easily grow a person. The experience of having something so heartbreaking that the name breakup is attached to breakup, the fear that is learned only when you have something you do not want to lose, and the power to become as strong as that fear. Then, the many sorrows and resoluteness of having to accept the sending of such precious things, and the solid 'me' space that can contain the beautiful things obtained as a result.

After being greeted energetically with 'Amigos Para Siempre', listening to 'New Moon', 'Blinding Night', and 'Chow' one after another, I felt that unnecessary and sticky things that had accumulated inside me were emptied. In particular, 'La Tempesta' told me that story more firmly. I once said that La Poem would become a team like Masterpiece Audio. What makes a good sound is 'space' before an instrument or music. As expected of lapoem, did you want to organize the space to come in and sing?

Thank you for letting us know through the album that a good story and a good sound are not separate concepts. I will also remember the meticulous heart that touched the heaviest and most painful things first.

PS: Interestingly, your voices play different roles for me. 'Ideal', 'Commitment', 'I who live through today' and 'the land on which I stand' like this. The answer to matching will be left open to everyone's interpretation.

잘 들었습니다. 가장 먼저 당신의 이야기를 들을 수 있어 영광이었습니다. 덕분에 근래 들어 가장 순수한 마음으로 가득 차, 이 여운이 가시기 전에 답장을 씁니다.

고백하자면 ‘눈부신 밤’은 꽤나 의외였습니다. 라포엠의 첫 앨범, 특히 주제 이야기는 가장 따스한 것들에 대한 것이리라 짐작했거든요. 놀랍게도 지독히 서러운 이별을 역설적으로 아름답게 풀어낸 이야기였습니다. 나는 언젠가부터 ‘이별’을 아주 슬프게 만은 쓰지 못하는 작사가가 되어버렸습니다. 이별이라는 것에는 사람 하나를 거뜬히 키워낼 만큼의 에너지가 앞뒤로 달려있다는 생각을 하면서부터요. 헤어짐에 이별이라는 이름이 붙여질 만큼 애틋한 무언가를 가져본 경험, 잃고 싶지 않은 것을 가져야만 배워지는 두려움, 그 두려움만큼 강인해지는 힘. 이어서 그토록 소중한 것을 보내주는 걸 받아들여야 하는 수많은 서러움과 의연함, 그리하여 얻어지는 아름다운 것들을 다시 담을 수 있는 견고한 ‘나’라는 공간까지.

‘Amigos Para Siempre’로 힘찬 인사를 받은 뒤 ‘신월’, ‘눈부신 밤’, ‘초우’를 잇달아 들으며 내 안에 고여있던 불필요하고 끈적거리는 것들이 비워지는 느낌을 받았습니다. 특히 ‘La Tempesta’는 좀 더 단호하게 그런 이야기를 해주더군요. 라포엠은 명품오디오 같은 팀이 될 것 같다고 말한 적이 있습니다. 좋은 소리를 내는 것은 악기에, 음악에 앞서 ‘공간’이지요. 역시 라포엠답게도, 들어와 노래를 부를 공간을 먼저 정리해두고 싶었던 걸까요?

좋은 이야기와 좋은 소리는 결코 별개의 개념이 아님을 앨범을 통해 알려주어서 고맙습니다. 가장 무겁고 아픈 것들을 먼저 어루만져준 세심한 마음도 기억하겠습니다.

추신: 흥미롭게도 네 분의 목소리는 저에게 다른 역할을 해주더군요. ‘이상’, ‘다짐’, ‘오늘을 살아내는 나’ 그리고 ‘내가 디디고 선 땅’ 이렇게요. 매칭의 정답은 만인의 해석으로 열어두겠지만요.

김이나 드림
