Jeong Jeong-ah's first full-length album [Longing is also sick] contains the time before he used the language of music. The pieces of memories and emotions that could not be picked up were collected in a small bowl and put together in a song. The romance and loss of youth, love and sadness, parting and reunion, etc., which were scattered separately, were arranged and became one chapter of the book, and finally passed to the next chapter.

Jeong Jeong-ah briefly worked in an indie band in college, but after that, she was away from music for a long time. Said to 'just live until he has something to say', he started singing his own song with a guitar at a small concert hall in Hongdae around the summer of 2012. Since then, he has been actively performing large and small performances, and his name has begun to be known by word of mouth quickly among various audiences. A large number of hand-made demo albums were sold, which became the cornerstone for the release of the first full-length album.

The lyrics of Jung-Ah Jung are literary. It resembles a formal poem that is concise and has prominent rhymes, or it is like a formless free verse, as if it were just written in words. The melodies and arrangements without decorations seem to follow the typical folk music centered on acoustic guitars, but they are very current. His tone contains various colors and temperatures. The singing method of pressing each syllable is clear and at the same time vague like the end of the wind. Slowly and calmly, sometimes playfully, it enhances the texture of the song.

In this album, Jeong Jeong-ah not only produced, but also wrote lyrics, composed, and arranged all songs, and also played guitar and piano. The sound, which aims to be as natural as possible in the arrangement of acoustic instruments, conveys a fresh and refreshing sense of space. The booklet, in which images recorded with his camera since 2007 as if he were writing in a diary, is arranged for each song, like a book of poetry. This is the part where he, who majored in fine art, sees the entire process as an extension or expansion of creation.

<Longing is also a disease> begins with a confession that any breakup is still difficult (our parting). The number of things I miss is increasing, but I am not used to it, so I do not know how to let go as if I am suffering from an illness (longing is also an illness). The seasons change indifferently, the exhaled breath leaves no trace in the cold air, and I tremble between the blowing winter wind and things I long for (winter is coming). The time of youth learning about love and breakup is painful but beautiful (again), and the night of blindly running at night to see the sea is, yes, let's call it romantic (romantic night). Although he is an urban refugee moving from place to place in Seoul, the song depicting his daily life comforting himself by saying, “My room is a palace,” was recorded in one take with an instrumental part (My room is a palace). Believing that the exceptionally harsh and long winter will end soon (Winter's End), we also put our lives wandering in search of a brilliant world as the seasons turn around (Wandering), and finally, we sing the sea (Sea) that embraces me silently. and the album ends.

정밀아의 정규 1집 [그리움도 병]은 그가 음악의 언어를 사용하기 이전의 시간을 담았다. 미처 주워 담지 못했던 기억과 감정의 조각들을 작은 그릇에 소담히 모으고 노래로 이어붙인 모양새이다. 제각각 흩어져 있던 청춘의 낭만과 상실, 사랑과 슬픔, 이별과 재회 등이 정돈되어 책의 한 장이 되었고, 마침내 다음 장으로 넘긴다.

정밀아는 대학시절 인디밴드에서 잠시 활동했으나 이후 오랜 기간 음악과 떨어져 있었다. '무언가 하고 싶은 말이 생길 때까지 그냥 살기'를 했다는 그는 2012년 여름 즈음 홍대 작은 공연장에서 기타 한 대로 자신이 만든 곡을 부르기 시작했다. 이때부터 크고 작은 공연을 활발히 이어갔고, 다양한 관객층 사이에서 빠르게 입소문을 타며 이름이 알려지기 시작했다. 직접 수공제작한 데모앨범이 상당량 판매되면서 정규1집 발매의 초석이 되었다.

정밀아의 노랫말들은 문학적이다. 간결하고 운율이 두드러지는 정형시를 닮았거나 혹은 그저 말을 글로 푼 듯 형식 없는 자유시 같다. 장식을 덜어낸 선율과 편곡은 어쿠스틱 기타가 중심인 포크음악의 전형을 따르는 듯하지만 더없이 현재의 감각이다. 그의 음색은 다양한 색채와 온도를 담고 있다. 한 음절씩 눌러 부르는 창법은 명징하고 동시에 바람의 끝처럼 아련하다. 느리고 담담하게 때로는 장난기 있게 노래의 질감을 돋운다.

정밀아는 이 앨범에서 프로듀싱은 물론, 전곡을 작사, 작곡, 편곡하였으며 기타와 피아노도 연주하였다. 어쿠스틱 악기 위주의 편곡에 최대한 자연스러울 것을 지향한 사운드는 풋풋하고 청량한 공간감을 전해준다. 2007년부터 자신의 카메라로 일기 쓰듯 기록한 이미지들을 각 곡마다 배치한 부클릿은 한 권의 시화집 같다. 순수미술을 전공한 그가 이 모든 과정을 창작의 연장 또는 확장으로 보는 태도가 고스란히 드러나는 부분이다.

<그리움도 병>은 어떤 이별이든 아직은 힘들다는 고백으로 시작한다(우리들의 이별). 어느덧 그리운 것들도 늘어나는데 그 또한 익숙하지 않아 병이라도 앓는 듯 떠나보낼 방법을 모른다(그리움도 병). 계절은 무심히 변하고 내뱉은 입김은 찬 공기에 흔적이 없으며, 불어 재끼는 겨울바람과 그리운 것들 사이로 나는 흔들린다(겨울이 온다). 사랑과 이별을 배워가는 청춘의 시간은 아프지만 아름답고(다시), 무작정 바다를 보기 위해 밤길을 달리던 밤은 그래, 낭만이라 하자(낭만의 밤). 서울 이곳저곳을 옮기며 살아가는 도시난민이지만 '내방은 궁전'이라며 마음을 다독이는 일상을 그린 노래는 악기파트를 원테이크로 녹음하였다(내 방은 궁전). 유난히 모질고 길기만 한 겨울도 머지않아 끝나리라 믿으며(겨울끝), 계절이 돌고 돌듯 찬란한 세계를 찾아 방랑하는 우리의 삶도 노래에 담았다(방랑), 마지막으로 나를 말없이 품어주는 바다(바다)를 노래하며 앨범은 끝난다.

우리의 시간은 다양한 사연과 사람, 공간과 감정을 엮으며 이어진다. 지나간 것들을 떠나보내고 나면 마침내 지금에 있게 된다. 정밀아는 그 모든 여정을 차곡하게 살아내며 빼곡하게 노래로 만들어 부른다. 그리고 이 음반에 기록했다. 이 소박하지만 짙은 이 노래들을 때는 느리게 걸어도 좋겠다. 어느새 아무렇지 않게 따라 부르고 있는 자신을 발견하더라도 놀라지는 말기를. 그것은 필시, 시나브로 스며들어 깊고 오래 머무는 노래의 힘일 것이다.
