Description (Translated):
Woongsan 30th Anniversary Debut AlbumWoongsan
Woong San, a representative Korean jazz vocalist and singer-songwriter, has released her 11th studio album, *Here's To Life*, to mark the 30th anniversary of her debut.
Woongsan, who debuted on the professional stage in 1996, has built her own unique musical world over the past 30 years by freely crossing genre boundaries, ranging from jazz and blues to Latin, funk, and Korean traditional music. In particular, she personally took the lead in this album and participated as a producer; her persona as a singer-songwriter who creates music based on her own stories is also clearly evident in this album.
The title track, "Here's To Life," captures gratitude and reflection on the time gone by, embracing all the joys and wounds, dreams and hopes, love and farewells of life. Woongsan expresses the weight of her 30th anniversary through her signature deep and delicate vocals, conveying a message about a life that continues to dream and sing.
In this album, Woongsan’s self-composed songs and exquisite jazz standards coexist organically. From Woongsan’s self-composed song "Come On and Kiss Me" and a flowing swing track, to the blues "The Blues of Reading Gaol," written with inspiration from the life and art of Oscar Wilde, the heartwarming "Tomorrow," the urban vintage-sounding "Let's Fall in Love" created with Woongsan’s longtime musical partner Jami Soul, and finally "Diaspora," with lyrics by director Jeon Hu-seok of the independent film *Heronimo* and music by Woongsan, one can encounter Woongsan’s musical identity as a singer-songwriter.
Woongsan’s deep sensibility shines through in "Estate," a song loved by many jazz musicians including Shirley Horne, and Billie Holiday’s signature repertoire, "Don’t Explain." Additionally, she has newly captured long-loved songs with her own unique interpretation, such as the jazz standards beloved by Koreans, "The Shadow of Your Smile" and "Bei Mir Bist Du Schön."
Description (Original):
또한 한국인이 사랑하는 재즈 스탠더드 〈The Shadow of Your Smile〉, 〈Bei Mir Bist Du Schön〉 등 오랜 시간 사랑받아온 곡들도 웅산만의 해석으로 새롭게 담아냈다.
